Tomorrow after work I get my first fill. I've decided I do want it now. I was told I could wait until after my May vacation, but I'm ready. I enjoyed four days of real food this week and I'll be back to liquids temporarily, I'm sure, for a few days after the fill. Hope it goes smoothly. I'll post tomorrow evening.

Try not to have food on your stomach... They like for your belly to be empty. I wish they would have told me that before my first fill, although it wasn't a big deal.

@prettyandbrwn, thanks for the tip. I had a Protein shake for lunch so that I wouldn't have any problems.

Well, today was GREAT! I'm so excited. I got my first fill of 4.5cc in my 14cc band. She started with 5cc, but the barium swallow went down slower than she wanted, so she removed 0.5cc and retested, and then it was fine. I watched it all on fluoroscope. Pretty cool. My band is exactly where it needs to be, my port site is healing well, and the needle didn't hurt at all.

I also found out that I can take the Tylenol caplets I was afraid to swallow, so that will save me the aggravation of crushing them or drinking the cherry-yucko-flavored liquid stuff I got from my pharmacist.

My next visit would have been two weeks from now for another fill, but that's right before my trip to Italy, so I'll go back in a month instead. Sounds like they fill every two weeks until you get to your green zone.

But the best part of today was that I got on the doctor's scale and hit the "50-pounds-gone" mark today! My surgeon stopped in to congratulate me and called me a superstar! LOL. I told him it was all willpower up until today, and he said, "Now your band is going to start helping you."

I came home, walked my treadmill, had Soup for supper, and feel fine. Better than fine - GREAT!

@@prettyandbrwn Wow, you already had your fill? How many weeks after did you get yours? Thursday I go in for my fill (3 week mark). My port site has healed well and I'm hoping it doesn't hurt!

@@JustWatchMe Wow! You really gave me some encouragement! Thank you for posting. I really do feel that this is all so much willpower up until I get my fill. I haven't felt that my band has helped me like I want it to, but my surgeon said that it is because I have nearly no liquid in my band. I'm really excited to really START this journey and put this baby to use. Some moments I feel that it is working, and other moments I feel that it isn't. I stepped on my scale and it went up a few pounds  I feel no restrictions, and am hoping that changes when I get my fill.

I need to get it together and put it to use as well. I just decided to start walking on my lunch break since I cannot eat on it, I will just drink Protein shakes because I only have a 30 minute lunch and that's not enough time to eat. Monday I ended up trying to eat in that time frame and food got stuck. When I got my fill it did hurt, she numbed it but she couldn't find my port, then I see people on here talking about a machine they use at there office so they can see. Mine didn't use such a machine... I want to see this in action. My schedule is to go back every three weeks for the first two fills then every 4 weeks once I am at the right fill level.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
