Is this where I introduce myself?

Recommended Posts

I'm sorry if I picked the wrong forum to introduce myself, but here I go.

I'm a 45-year-old woman on the road to to weight loss surgery (maybe). I'm interested in the gastric sleeve, but I haven't met with the surgeon yet. However, I've gone to a group meeting at the weight loss surgery center where I received a packet of all the stuff I need to do beforehand to get insurance approval. Basically, the surgeon doesn't want to see you until you're approved. I've done the 6 months medically supervised diet (which I didn't follow very well, I admit). All I have left is the required psych evaluation before I send all the paperwork off in hopes that insurance will give its approval.

At this point, I'm not sure if the surgeon will think I'm a good candidate for the gastric sleeve. I have a lot to lose and I'm not a spring chicken anymore. If he recommends the duodenal switch instead, I'm probably going to say no thank you. I seriously considered it before, but backed away because I thought it was too extreme.

I'm hoping I make the right decision, whatever it is. Reading about your experiences ought to help.

Hi,

I just had mine 5days ago. And I guess I'm no spring chicken either as I'm 45 in 2weeks time! Lol

I am now feeling human again! Waiting for the magic to happen!

Good luck with your decision x

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
