Preop struggles....first time poster

Recommended Posts

Hi, I am new to the forum but so glad to have found it. I have spent days reading threads and wanted to check in. I am scheduled for surgery on may 8th and I am doing my preop diet now. I am starving pretty much and hungry all the time, like stomach growling about an hour after each shake. I am doing self pay for the vgs in Cincinnati with Dr. Trace Curry. I pretty much worry I am about to spend my entire savings and do this drastic thing and then not lose more than like 30 pounds. Also, being so hungry on this preop diet worries me I will be hungry after surgery and I know if I spend the rest of my life hungry there is no way it will work. Most of the people on here have had success but there are some that don't lose weight or are hungry all the time. What is it that makes the difference?

I am scheduled for the 6th and I also am hungry. This will make day 4 a nd its the weekend, the grandkids will be here and I will have to cook. So far I haven't cooked since the pre-op started. I am also cash pay. So great question, I look forward to seeing the answers!

I've seen so many of these posts and could have been the author a year ago. The pre-op experience has little to do with the post op reality. It is not indicative of your likely success or failure. Statistically speaking, when it comes to weight loss, we are used to failing. We all think we are the worst offender and the weakest link. You are about to commit to an incredible journey of self love and kindness. I encourage you to concentrate on what your mind is saying about you and how that has impacted the decisions you have made on your own behalf. Then embrace your decision and refuse to listen to any part of your inner dialogue that undermines you. You will find that the negative voices get louder when your stomach starts growling. Its panic. It has been a successful method of self sabotage and its time to show that bastard in your brain that tantrums are not going to be rewarded with french fries any longer!

Nice post ElyQuint. Congratulations on your weight loss of 93 lbs. I hope to be as half a success. I am from New York too. I'm looking forward to reading more of your post. Keep up the good work.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
