3 weeks post op--having trouble eating enough

Recommended Posts

Hey my surgery was about 3 weeks ago, on April 1st, I'm eating soft and puréed food. Problem is I am really struggling to eat, never hungry and I am averaging 200 cals per day. I know that's bad, but I am not sure what to do. Any thoughts?

Drinking enough Fluid is also very tough! Help please!

I was right where you are. The 1st 10 days post-op, I only ate sugar free popsicles, for about the next 3 weeks, I was eating about 3/4 of a can of mushroom Soup per day. Things will get better and you will be able to eat more as your new stomach heals.

It was over a month before I was eating over 600 calories a day. I stayed focused on getting enough fluids. I figured I had enough fat stored on my body to keep me alive for about 6 months! :o

Wow I can't believe you can eat soft foods at three weeks. I wish I was able too. My post op diet is 3 weeks clear fluids, 3 weeks full fluids and then two weeks of soft foods. I'm not even allowed Protein Shakes til 5 weeks out. It's so weird how every doctor has a different post op plan. You would think it would be the same for everyone seeing how it's the same surgery and all.

Omg...! 3 weeks of Clear Liquids? ! I only have to do 3 days and I'm complaining I'll just zip it up now knowing others have a longer period on them

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
