Incisional hernia where my port used to be and my stomach came out of...

Recommended Posts

After feeling a "pop" on Fri afternoon after putting a load of laundry in, I checked out my painful "port site" (hasn't been a port there since my July 2013 revision) and there was a hard lump there, much bigger than the usual scar tissue. It was like someone was giving me an Indian burn inside. Everytime I used my ab muscles (sitting, standing, lying down) it hurt. All day Sat it burned. Hubby started googling it and started freaking me out that I had part of my intestines sticking thru. So I went to the ER.

After trying to reduce it (push it back), they did an ultrasound. It wasn't intestines but instead a fatty tumor that broke thru the muscle. Told me I had to see a surgeon. I c my primary care next Monday for a consult. Diagnosed me with an Incisional Hernia. Guess it's more common with people who have had more than 1 surgery on the same incicison (as in mine - where my port was and where they took my stomach out).

Just updating on my previous post about the pain on port site...

Excuse me. I wasn't going to respond to this but I can't help it now. What the heck is an Indian burn?

LOL. An "Indian Burn" (not very politically correct of me, I guess) is when (usually a kid) twists ur wrist with both hands, frontwards and backwards at the same time.

Didn't know this was a new term. Maybe I'm telling my age (46)???

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
