Feeling like a failure 21 days post op! Please help!

Recommended Posts

Hi all, I had my sleeve 21 days ago and feeling so disappointed with myself. I lost approx 2 stone since starting the liquid diet. After the first week post op my weight stopped dropping of and I've become disheartened. I was following the food plan and am on the 3rd stage of soft moist foods but I've deviated and eaten a lot of chocolate and some fruit the past few days. I was hoping I'd get a bad reaction and not be able to tolerate the sugary foods I shouldn't be having but all what's happened is I can't eat the amount I used to as quickly. I'm now really worried what the scales are going to say when I wake up in the morning and am really concerned I'm failing and this operation wouldn't have been worth having it. I really want this and thought I was ready. I know it's not a magic wond and I need to control my eating but I'm scared it's all going so wrong so quickly. I have been trying so hard and trying to stay active and motivated. All the threads I've read are so positive. Has anyone experienced a similar story to me please? Should a very small amount of food make me feel more full and uncomfortable? Should it be impossible for me to eat too much so early on? Please help I'm feeling so lost, scared and alone right now.

Thanks

Gemma

Not to sound harsh, but you know what to do, now that you've undergone the surgery...just do it!

The first two months were the most challenging for me, as well as almost everyone else.

You will get through this, however you have to want it...and trust me, you do want it!

This has been a blessing for me and my wife (she was sleeved exactly 2 months after me)...and you will see, the transformation will be incredible! You cannot fathom how much the weight loss is going to change your life...you just gotta get through the gettin' through! ;)

Good luck and Godspeed for a quick recovery!

Yeh I know, thanks. I'm going to wake up tomorrow and start as I mean to go on and put a lot more effort in. But can you tell me if you could have eaten more than you were told to at the beginning? Thanks

I had no problem with fluids and pureed/soft foods, but when I got to more dense foods (4-6 weeks out), I had a major wake-up call! It seemed the more dense the food, the less of it I could tolerate. Although everyone is different, I have heard much of the same on this site.

Again, you will be fine, the first few months is tough. The surgery reduced the volume of intake, it did not fix what was going on between your ears ;). Give yourself time and I promise, you will get through this period...just gotta take baby steps.

Ok great thanks. I'm going to put a lot more effect and just try and trust everything will be ok.

Dear Gemma

I too am having problems losing. Read my post that I wrote on "post op" forum. I decided to go back to soft foods and get the Protein and the Water in... Good Luck my friend.. We all have different things going on in our life.. it can't be the same for us all. I'm a caretaker to my husband with Alzheimer's... it is hard to care for him, and pay atten to me. But I must do it.... JewelJ

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
