Imus show suspended due to racial comments

Recommended Posts

If the whole big mess does nothing but reveal that Sharpton/Jackson are racists, promoting racism so they can promote themselves, it will have been worth it. I had only a passing knowledge of Imus before this media-created crisis, and wish it were still that way, actually. The 15 minute fame period is over.

No one is trying to take anything away from you. People need to learn there are repercussions for their actions. The government didn't come in and fire Imus, his boss did!!

Sky, I agree with you.

It was me the one who said that if he was to be working in a less public place (a Dr's Off.) he would be fired.(REDICULUS...just kidding :)

For some people racial jokes are funny, my husband is North American (White) I am not, he likes to tell jokes that involves people of different races(black, french, latino).

He enjoys this things..I just don't. And with this I'm not saying he is bad and that I am a bitter witch..is just that your race is who you are, what you love...C'mon who will like to hear your ------(fill in the blank) MOM!!!

If you read my comment you would have read what he said. Steve harvey is making fun of white southern people and making racially sensitive, derogatory and stereotypical comments about them. Isn't that what Imus is being accuse of when he said nappy headed ho's? Isn't Imus being accused of being racially insensitive, stereotypical, and derogatory? Can you tell me what the difference is between these two people and why one is worse than the other?

Can you elaborate? Do you have any quotes? I don't even know what you are talking about.

I'm from the South. Southerners get knocked all the time. My coworker from NY picks on us all the time. Our radio stations here pick on northerners all the time. I love North Carolina. People out of the south may think it's a negative thing, most embrace it.

I hope he didn't call Gretchen Wilson a white trash ho. I love Gretchen!! I would be mad if he did.

If I believe that I might as well believe that my dog will grow purple wings and fly! If it wasn't for people like Dr. King, Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson, black people would not have Civil Rights. I am so glad they have NEVER backed down to this country and allowed the continuous unfair treatment to people of color! Jesse was right here in MEMPHIS,TN when Dr. King was murdered, he marched and fought for justice! Other communities may get tired of seeing them, but the African American communities will not! We need them and others alike to CONTINUE to stand for EQUALITY for ALL!!

Okay. so you are saying I cannot think of anything else to say so I am "crying first amendment"? What diminishes why we have the first amendment? when people want to enforce it? Have you been watching the news? Do you think I am the only one talking about the first amendment? the only one talking about civil rights and liberties? You are too funny. Talk about ignorant.

What does it change since other people are saying that too? They aren't too bright!! So, you don't think people ever twist the 1st amendment to fit their warped world?

What have I said that was ignorant? Is there anything you can actually prove is inaccurate?

I cannot beleive you are putting Al Sharpton in the same category as a great man Like Dr. King. I'm curious, and you probably won't answer this like you didn't anwer the sarcasm criteria post, but what are your opinions on Al Sharpton's involvement in the Tawana Brawley case? Also when I said I respected your differing opinion even though you did not respect mine and you wrote that you respected that I conceded. Is that because we have different opinions? Not being rude, it is your right to think your opinions are the only ones that matter and are correct.

Al Sharpton is a racist in that he is an individual who has two sets of optics; he will judge your bad activities based on the colour of your skin. With respect to the Imus situation he was up front and central but I have never heard of him engaging in issues to do with rap language and as we all know it has been rappers who have been floating the concepts and language of violence over the past few decades including the term ho. Of course this indicates that this individual carries with himself a vivid double standard. It is for this reason that this fellow strikes me as being a racist, an opportunist, a gas-bag, and an anti-intellectual.

Imus certainly did f!!k up and this is where your country has the opportunity to engage in something more than meaningless rhetoric in the style of Sharpton. It would be far more noble of this man to take a low-key approach and to open up a discussion into the issues hingeing on racial damage.

The plain truth is that Sharpton is none too bright and he is a political opportunist who is playing the racist card. Also true is that his approach of stirring up Blacks against Whites is not useful given that both Blacks and Whites live in America and will continue to do so. Nor is it a Christian love yer brothers kind of philosophy, is it?

Did rappers coin the term ho? I was hearing ho/whore long before I even really knew what rap is. You can blame rap music all you want, if still doesn't change a thing. Do you know anything about rap music or what you call "rap language."

As I have stated previously, I don't understand where this became about Al Sharpton. People with nothing to say what to address everything but the issue and continue to blame other people.

Once again, Al Sharpton is not the end to all...All Sharpton is not the president of the black community. You need to blame the media as much as you blame Al...Al is not the messiah of the black community. How many people have talked about the problems with rap music? Why for you does it have to be Sharpton????????? Inquiring minds want to know. :phanvan

And since whites are still the majority in this country and since white kids are the main ones keeping the rap game alive why more doing something about it.

While the majority of American is at it take a look at some other problems in society. If people worried more about rearing the children and what goes on in their house we may have better children. Stop letting hip hop, Paris Hilton, and Barney raise your kids. I guarantee you some people know more about what's going on with Brittany Spears than they do their own kids.

Yet again, you are not completely reading my posts. Go back and look and you will see that I am not arguing he shouldn't be fired. I'm arguing aginst the double standard and for the right for free speech. You are making my points for me.

Oh I get it, you are secretly on my side but playing devil's advocate. Dude, you are doing a great job. I was beleiving you for a second.

Yeah, right..You are dreaming..I did read what you said. Why b/c I disagree am I not reading your posts. You need therapy!!

Yes I am!! He has marched and fought for equality and he continue do so today. Have you heard of the Imus firing? Just curious:)! If Dr. King was alive today, I know he would be right with Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson!

The point of the story was to be honest pertaining to the topic at hand. Why are you so upset by my honesty and opinion? I'm not upset by your opinions. The only thing I'm upset about is that you are accusing me of saying stuff that I didn't. What is it you have against honesty. Yours and mine?

Yes I did call him a crybaby. Am I not allowed to have that opinion?

I'm not upset, I just wish you could see the error of your ways. I know everyone like you can't be saved, but I guess I have to try.

What does Isiah Washingtong being black have to do with anything I said. What statements does it throw out the window?

What is wrong with you? I think you are forgetting what you wrote. Are you joking? I know you have a weird sense of humor:phanvan

Did you forget you said that black people can say anything and it's okay? :faint:

You also said you wished you were black so you could say anything.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
