Imus show suspended due to racial comments

Recommended Posts

Actually you did say it wasn't ok to be sarcastic. Well you said it depends on who is saying it. So I am curious which people it is acceptable from and which people it isn't. Also, I should start a fan club for who? I'm not an Imus fan, in fact I think his show is pretty boring. But I do think you have an excellent suggestion as far as starting a fan club for what I am a fan of and the reason I started this thread. Great idea to start a fan club for the First Amendment. Good thinkin' girl!

It should be called When you can't think of anything else to say cry 1st amendment. :phanvan That's so 6th grade. IMO, it diminishes why we have the 1st amendment. Most people don't even understand half the amendments..Shoot most people couldn't list the amendments, but always cry 1-10.

P.S.-Don't scream fire in a crowded building...And you know you can be sued for slander.

Oh, come on....Explain this what was the point of the example you gave?!!? Honestly, I really don't get the point of the story other than to make you look even worse. Eventhough you said you didn't except him to accept your apology, it really sounded like you did. Later in the story you made it clear you didn't even understand why he was still mad since you had apologized. Didn't you also also call him a crybaby:phanvan

The point of the story was to be honest pertaining to the topic at hand. Why are you so upset by my honesty and opinion? I'm not upset by your opinions. The only thing I'm upset about is that you are accusing me of saying stuff that I didn't. What is it you have against honesty. Yours and mine?

Yes I did call him a crybaby. Am I not allowed to have that opinion?

I agree that Stern is a prejudice, sexist, disgusting human being. You are preaching to the choir about this issue. I couldn't agree with you more. But isn't Howard Stern allowed to have civil rights and liberties? Aren't we all allowed to have that? I hope so, and you should hope so to, because if they take that away from us, then we will not be able to have message boards like this where you and I can both post our opinions even though they disagree. I don't want that taken away from me. I'm sure you don't either.

No one is trying to take anything away from you. People need to learn there are repercussions for their actions. The government didn't come in and fire Imus, his boss did!!

Okay. so you are saying I cannot think of anything else to say so I am "crying first amendment"? What diminishes why we have the first amendment? when people want to enforce it? Have you been watching the news? Do you think I am the only one talking about the first amendment? the only one talking about civil rights and liberties? You are too funny. Talk about ignorant.

HYSTERICAL!!! I love that show.

I love the show too....Isiah Washington should have never called T.R. Knight a faggot though, b/c it was wrong!! Since you watch the show you know he's black right, so that throws you other statement out of the window.

Yet again, you are not completely reading my posts. Go back and look and you will see that I am not arguing he shouldn't be fired. I'm arguing aginst the double standard and for the right for free speech. You are making my points for me.

Oh I get it, you are secretly on my side but playing devil's advocate. Dude, you are doing a great job. I was beleiving you for a second.

What does Isiah Washingtong being black have to do with anything I said. What statements does it throw out the window?

Yes I am half mexican. My mother was full mexican and my father was full Irish, I think that makes me half mexican. It also makes me half Irish. Again, I could be wrong. What am I in denial about? Are you saying it was inappropriate for my mom to call us that? Are you saying I should have been offended by my mom? I would disagree with you saying I'm in denial. In fact, I think I'm being very honest and open even when it does not shed me in the best light.

Again, sense of humor is a matter of opinion. I don't think you have a good sense of humor. That doesn't mean I'm correct. I'm sure you would disagree. And you obviously don't think I have a good sense of humor. Doesn't mean you are correct. You don't get to decide what I think is funny. I don't get to decide what you should think is funny. Do you think political humor is funny? I don't. But I'm sure there are a lot of people reading this who do. What does common sense have to do with humor? How do they even go together? Common sense IS just as important as book smarts but I'm still not understanding the link between common sense and humor.

Yeah, I would have been offended if my mom frequently called me names that were typically used to describe animals...I sure don't believe it's appropriate for parents to call their kids mutts or nappy headed hos...

Common sense has to do w/everything. Look up common sense. I did it can pretty much apply to everything. Therefore the lack there of is a bad bad thing.

I didn't say she said anything about his race. I said she was spewing hate speech. She said he was old ugy creep. I said that was hate speech every bit as much as Imus nappy headed ho's comment. It just so happens he is white. Are you actually reading what I write? just curious.

Yup, I am reading it just makes no sense...Maybe old could be counted as ageism....What does that have to do w/his race? Any race can have ugly creeps.:phanvan

How is Al Sharpton a racist? He may be prejudice, but I don't see how it's possible for a black male in America to be racist. Define racism. I think you are confused. Not saying I am a Sharpton fan by an means.

People need to understand that Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson don't speak for all black America. Al Sharpton didn't make Imus say that crap. Why can't they both be wrong?

Al Sharpton is a racist in that he is an individual who has two sets of optics; he will judge your bad activities based on the colour of your skin. With respect to the Imus situation he was up front and central but I have never heard of him engaging in issues to do with rap language and as we all know it has been rappers who have been floating the concepts and language of violence over the past few decades including the term ho. Of course this indicates that this individual carries with himself a vivid double standard. It is for this reason that this fellow strikes me as being a racist, an opportunist, a gas-bag, and an anti-intellectual.

Imus certainly did f!!k up and this is where your country has the opportunity to engage in something more than meaningless rhetoric in the style of Sharpton. It would be far more noble of this man to take a low-key approach and to open up a discussion into the issues hingeing on racial damage.

The plain truth is that Sharpton is none too bright and he is a political opportunist who is playing the racist card. Also true is that his approach of stirring up Blacks against Whites is not useful given that both Blacks and Whites live in America and will continue to do so. Nor is it a Christian love yer brothers kind of philosophy, is it?

I hate to say it. I'm going to have to concede to you. As much as I love debating with people it is impossible to do with you because you are not honest in your accusations. Also, common sense does not apply to everything. But again, you win. I will go down the line and possibly reply to anything ihaven't read yet but after that I am done commenting with you. I respect your differing opinion even though you don't respect mine. I do not respect your dishonesty in your accusations though. For the record. My mother was a great person who raised her twins to the best of her abilities by herself with no family (she was raised in foster homes because her parents were killed when she was a very small child). She worked hard to put clothes on our back and food on our table and never complained. Even when my brother and I were 14 and my brother was diagnosed with non-hotchkins lymphoma and had to travel back and forth to a town 4 hours away every two weeks for 9 months to have chemotheraphy treatments and then during that same time I was in a horrible four wheeler accident where both my arms and one leg was broken and I was in a different hospital for weeks on end which put her in financial ruin which she never caught up on even though she always made her payments. she loved to tease and would have never hurt a fly. She was however a little obsessed with 70's music and board games. The last thing my mother ever did was hurt our feelings especially on purpose. I know I will never come close to being the great person she was. Even though unlike her, I will probably live past the age of 47.

okay, you are not being honest here. I absolutely did NOT post only negative things about hip hop. I said in my opinion there were just as much self struggle hip hop as negative hip hop. Show me where I ONLY posted negative things about hip hop. You have yet to show me anything you have accused me of so far.

Here is exactly what you said, "I don't know that I agree with "most" of the hip/hop or rap music being about one's own struggles. I believe there is just as much gangster/kill people/slap your ho/i'm a pimp/f---white people hip/hop/rap as their is personal struggles music. There is really no way to know for sure but I do think people are deciding to focus on one or the other without recognizing the other. I happened to have heard some neo-nazi music as well. There is actually a market for that (in my opinion) crap. Obviously not as big a market as hip/hop (which I personally love)."

I guess b/c you are talking out 2 sides of your mouth. You clearly don't know anything about hip hop. Most hip hop artists (I assume who you are referring to as the gangsters) have the rap sheets to prove their story. Doesn't 50 cent (who I don't listen to) have the bullet wounds to prove it. I doubt most of them are still standing on the corner selling drugs and stuff.

What's positive about your post?

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
