Recommended Posts

I am not Mandurah, but Seattle WA - My surgery is June 12 so next Thursday. I am open to be buddies and good luck on your surgery. Who is your doctor?

Hi Jane,

When I say WA, I mean a Western Australia.....so a long way from you!

Happy to be buddies, as support is so vital during this experience.

Good luck next week!

Hello, im getting sleeved on the 8th of October, currently doing the Optifast for 10 day's! 2nd day in and im struggling to have the 3 shakes! Would have 2 shakes then salad for dinner. Will this effect the surgery? Im located in Wellard, age 21. Loved reading through all the comments, makes it that little bit easier and no longer nervous for the op!!

I shouldn't think so... But I'd just do e best you can and the rest will sort itself out. I heard the need for that depends on te surgeon and your pre-surgery weight. First doctor I saw when I was considering the band insisted on the 2 week optifast first, but the doctor who ended up doing my sleeve didn't need me to do that diet... So I don't think it makes a big difference unless you have a larger than normal liver or like I said depends on your pre surgery weight... I was 106kgs before mine in March and I didn't have to do the diet... Hope that helps:) I'm also in Wellard BTW... Anyway, good luck on the 8th:)

Thank you for your reply!

Im going through Dr Stephen Watson @ Murdoch SJOG. I have emailed the dietitian, as she gave ne the Optifast diet to do, so ive asked if there's an alternative diet I can go on, even just doing 2 shakes then salad/veggies and chicken breast for dinner! Anyway we will see what she says :) bring on the 8th!!! And thank you :)

Oh he did my sleeve as well and I went through Nikki Cummings as my dietician, she is just the next floor down from Dr Watson's rooms and she was very understanding and helpful.... Didn't have to do that diet though... But like I said I transferred from considering the band to the sleeve so I switched dieticians and surgeons so maybe I just slipped the cracks for the diet... Didn't do and I think I turned out alright:) it's been 6 months so at and I am down to 79kgs from 106 so that's been life changing already... I can do so much more now and I feel much better about myself too...

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
