2 weeks post surgery and struggling with the diet

Recommended Posts

So I was sleeved on 31st March and for 2 weeks now I've struggled with the liquid diet coz It wasn't very satisfying and it didn't feel like I was eating anything filling.... I also kept over filling myself with the liquid coz I'm still trying to learn when to stop but feel like my body gives me mixed signals.... Only time I realise iv had too much is when the pain and discomfort starts. But atleast Iv lost 7kgs/15 pounds and love that aspect but it's very hard being on a liquid diet when everyone else in the house is still eating normal and delicious smelling food:) anyway just sharing my experience and hoping it will get easier as I progress to each next stage. Tomorrow I get to start on purée so yay!

Thanks Carlotta. Tried my first go and purée and had the worst night if my life! Had such terrible heart burn and cramp and all I has was puréed chicken and red kidneys beans... Maybe I need to just start on puréed veggies first then work my way up to meat....

Yeah my hubby keeps telling me maybe I started the purée too early, but I'm going based on the advice of my dietician and I am sick to death of Resolve, Resource chicken broth and jelly.... At least Optifast tastes nice- just the strawberry flavour though lol

In my full liquid stage I was adding powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury unflavored Protein powder and eating chicken broth, beef broth, tortilla Soup base, hot and sour Soup base, every cream soup. I could find ( asparagus, shrimp, leek, Tomato, chicken, mushroom, potato to, etc.). The cream Soups I diluted and strained. I also used PB2, Mio and other flavored Water drops to mix up the flavors of my Protein shakes....dreamsicle, grape, banana chocolate, Peanut Butter, cherry, sour apple, etc.

When I started puree's, Greek yogurt, refried Beans, cottage cheese, puréed tuna salad, scrambled eggs, hummus, and puréed split pea and bean Soups were some of my staples.

Thanks for the responses. I'm onto purée now but funnily enough am still swapping one main meal for a liquid option. Gotta finish all these shakes and Soups so they don't get wasted:)

At 4 months I still have at least one Protein shake/ day sometimes even 2. I can eat anything I want, but I can eat so little before I'm stuffed, I wouldn't come close to my protein requirements without it. As for soup...well, I just like soup!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
