Has anyone else ever had to pay 2 copays for their surgery?

Recommended Posts

Ok guys, glad I did my homework...I called member services myself and I urge you all to do the same when it comes to the unforeseen fees from the Dr's office. So what they told me is...I have a $250 copay for my inpatient stay at the hospital and that I should not be forced to pay that inpatient fee for the surgeon's office also unless it was a standalone clinic and I was sleeping there. It's not, I'm going to the hospital.

Member services helped me greatly, they informed me that since I've paid my fee for the hospital, the surgeon's fee will be paid once the hospital has been paid and any remaining fees will be my responsibility but it looks like after I pay the copay, I am covered at 100%, so I am all good.

Luckily I had the staff call member services at Kaiser to tell her what I owe because she said she got her information from the guy at St. Agnes(the hospital) and he only quoted her what I owed them and she thought I pay them the same.

Just remember, you don't know the skill set of the person you are putting in control of your business, know when something is not right and ask as many questions as it takes until you have a full understanding.

I just got my apology call and I am more than forgiving and thankful that it's all cleared up but heed this head up warning!! Surgery is a go for 4/23 and I'm as ready as I will ever be to get it over with...lol.

Good luck to you all...

Guess i'm just glad it's getting done now and that the office was so helpful in getting me approved with these great benefits while I still had them....as of May 1st, my plan changes, which would have changed my hospital and my surgeon to a place about 3 hours from me and my deductible starts over so I would have paid $1200, but luckily my boss pays half of that too.

either way....YAAAAAY for today's victory!!

Glad they told you ahead of time...but that's bad news to someone like me, last minute after I spent all my extra money toward preparing at home for the procedure.

That's a lot to pay though, glad it all still worked out for you because if that was me, I woulda been heading to Mexico...lol.

Are you sure your procedures considered "inpatient"? I think mine is out patient , they call it 23 hour admission. That might make a difference too.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
