Weird Post Op Question

Hey everyone! I have always been the exception to most rules, but this time I hope I am not alone. I am 10 days post op and since the surgery, well since I have gone beyond Clear liquids, I have had the worse taste in my mouth! Like with anything, juice, flavored Water, my soft foods, I get the worst taste in my mouth!

And in the morning -- WHEW!!! So, am I alone in this, or is has this happened to anyone else?

Grabbing for sugar free mints!

It's because of the high Protein, low carb diet. Your body is in ketosis and it causes bad breath. It should go away when you start eating more fruits and veggies.

Whew! Thanks for the company! I was at my follow appointment yesterday and I forgot to ask when CAN I have fruit. I know we can't have fibrous fruits and veggies early on, but WHEN????

I found that nothing helped until I started oil pulling...Now my breath is always fresh with a light coconutty smell. So glad I found out about it! :)

I too heard it was due to ketosis! Also I find that my premier protein shake gives me the most disgusting breath ugh!

Oh girl, those Protein shakes take it to a WHOLE other level! I have been hearing about the oil pulling, and now I may really have to try it. Thanks for the tip!

What is oil pulling?

You take oil most often I've heard coconut oil and swish it around in your mouth for a period of time I read 20 mins in one blog and said forget it I couldn't do it! It's supposedly removes toxins and also kills bacteria, increasing your immune system as well...I may try once, but I can't imagine 20 mins with oil in my mouth! Hmmmm!

sounds like you're in Ketosis it's normal brush your teeth and tongue often you'll be ok

I know RJ said she does it while in the shower...so that is what I plan on doing when I try it...but yeah, I have mints available 24/7 too!

Coconut oil starts out as a solid and turns into a liquid as it reacts to the temperature of your mouth. I find once it is in the liquid state..It is easy and does not taste that bad.

My teeth have whitened and my teeth are like they have been freshly cleaned by a dentist. And my breath is great.....

So there are several good reasons to take it. Also your teeth are a bone and it can rebuild itself. Taking away toxins and bacteria also good. Just don't swallow the stuff. Then you are swallowing the poison you are trying to get rid of....

I do it 2 times a week now. Did it every day for 2 weeks...I'm going to continue. I love the effects of oil pulling!

@RJ'S/beginning where did you buy your coconut oil? I want to try this... my teeth could use some assistance ;) ...thanks!

Hey AJ, I'm 11 days post-op, and yea the ketosis state is awful, and I think that's why nothing tastes right either, but as to your other question. All surgeons are different with this, as you may be able to tell. My doctor told me 1 week, clear liquids. #2 pureed, so I was to see him yesterday for first visit, he told me I could have any fruit, as long as it's in it's own fruit juice, and pureed, next wek, starts soft diet, and then week 4 I can start bringing regualr food into the diet. Hope this helps.

@RJ'S/beginning where did you buy your coconut oil? I want to try this... my teeth could use some assistance ;) ...thanks!

I buy it at Costco..In the big tub....

I use it after I shower for dry areas and I cook with it too.... ;) Not the same stuff I have used to clean my teeth with though...gross..lol

Don't have a costco near me...maybe I'll try Sam's or Walmart... thanks... could use the "assistance" LOL

I'm not a fan of the smell of coconut on people (i guess it reminds me of suntan lotion), but I'll be HAPPY to put it in my mouth LOL :)

Thanks kid! @RJ'S/beginning
