First time being sick with the band :(

Recommended Posts

I usually exercise twice a day. I skipped this morning because I've been feeling crappy (sinus infection) the past couple days. I had some trouble today with things staying down. But I thought I got in enough calories to work out. So I did my regular workout. Well now I can't get dinner down and my band hurts. Wondering if I should do liquids for a couple days and no exercise? I'm afraid if I don't exercise that my band will tighten up and I not be use to my workout routine.

I don't see how not exercising would cause your band to tighten. If anything I know my band loosens when I lose weight it never tightened on it's own unless I was sick and had inflammation.

I know I tend to be a little tighter when I'm ill or on my cycle. Plus if your sick you may not want to eat a lot anyway.

If your having problems with keeping food down I would suggest do liquids, broth is always good when your sick anyway.

As far as your work out routine, YOUR SICK! Give your body a brake, let yourself heal. I don't think you would gain a ton of weight for taking a few days off, especially if your on liquids.

Good luck, go easy, get rest!

Thanks. I think I'm going to try liquids for a couple days. When I first started working out it took about 2 weeks untill my band stopped hurting and being inflamed. I think it's from the pulling when running. It would swell and be tighter. I just don't want to go thru that again if I stop for a couple days :(

I know another bandster whose band tightens after a workout. She actually uses this to her advantage, instead of getting a fill, she just works out daily to keep the restriction going.

When I've been sick with my band, I have noticed more constriction. When I exercise I can feel the band tighten some also. I can tell that there's a little more constriction because while I'm working out and I take a drink of Water, I can feel the difference.

I think you should also take it easy with exercise and just be good to yourself. I hope you feel better!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
