So up till now my post surgery has been no fun at all? I first had the worst time when I got out of surgery and the bed was awful at the hospital, I should have just slept on the floor? Then I got out of the hospital after spending one night but got home and was great for the first 6 days or so and then one week post op and I got horribly sick, fever, head cold, it was awful, at one point thought my incision was infected, and so I went to my doctors and he said it was not infected just oozing crap from the fat tissue they had to cut through to get to my insides, and that is when I found out the reason I had a larger incision than originally though with all the staples, and that turned out because I am a very tiny girl on the inside? Wow who would of thought after all this time? So the staples were just awful for the 2 weeks I had to have them in, they felt like they were stabbing me all the time, they really sucked. So yesterday I finally got the staples out and as i'm in there he is upset at how red it is around the staples and my incision and so as he pulls out the staples and starts pressing on the incision to push the oozing stuff out, the whole incision that was supposed to be closed up is now wide open again? He can't close it back up because of the oozing, and so now I have to let it heal from the inside out? I also have to wear a maxi pad on it cause he said it would be the best thing to cover it and soak up the crap, and I have to change that every hour or so? It has been all issues since I got out of that dam surgery, and I don't regret getting the surgery, but dang it can't I just heal up like normal people? I just want to cry all the time at all I am dealing with. I want to start working out more and getting in a routine and I can't now because of this. I can do little things, like I can walk, and I can lower body stuff and arm stuff, but nothing from the neck to the waste? That's where I want to lose weight??? Is it ever going to get better? Anyone have a clue? Anyone else go through what I am going through? This sucks!!!!

I totally know where you are coming from. I had surgery 3/10/14 and started to heal. On 3/30 I went to the ER because my main incision area (I had laparoscopic) was bright red, warm to the touch, swollen, and painful. I had an infection under the skin. So my incision was reopened so it could drain. I followed up with my surgeon 2 days later and he had to open it wider to ensure it heals correctly and without issue this time. Now it has to heal as well from the inside out. On top of that bec it is rather deep I have to pack it with gauze and cover it each day. And I can't tell you enough how it freaks me out and I can hardly look at it. On top of all this, I am on 2 antibiotics which make me nauseas all day. I can hardly eat or drink. Even some anti-nausea meds are not helping.

I have to keep the faith that this will pass and everything will be ok. You have to do the same! I have read more on this since experiencing this and we will get better soon. Just be patient and work through it. My success in all this has been losing 32 lbs so far!

Good luck! You are not facing this alone!

Thanks Queenie!!! Good to know I'm not alone!!!! Sillyolme I got my surgery the 19th of march at mercy hospital and they are the leading hospital in my area that does these surgeries and my doc has a very high success rate. It has nothing to do with being wronged its all in how people heal. The only other surgery that I had was a c-section with my youngest and the same thing happen to me with that incision but I had to be bed ridden for the most part cause where that one was and I had an in home nurse come in to clean it everyday and pack it? So I just don't heal good from surgeries???? Maybe when I lose all my weight???

I'm still 10 days RNY pre-op, but I had my gall bladder out on 2/14 and I'm still oozing. I only had one belly button hole but it's still leaking. I walk around with gause in there. I can tell you that it's getting better slowly but surely. So have faith, your body will heel!

Bulliemom thanks I am actually going to call him this week and see cause I want so badly to get in exercise as much as I can during the first 6-8 months as that is the time you lose the most weight and if I'm spending it healing then I am going to still lose but not how I planned to spend my post surgery? It also looks really nasty, and I don't even like being around my hubbyman without my shirt or anything cause I don't want him to see me like that, he does everything he can to help me but I don't like him seeing me like that?

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
