Any April Sleevers?

Recommended Posts

Just found out they bumped my surgery tomorrow from 0830 to 1230. I'm a bit upset about it because I wanted a morning time to be sure my surgeon is fresh, because I can't even have a sip of Water after midnight and I know I will be suffering from hunger and that all morning, and because I'm concerned it may delay my discharge the next day.

Spending the day trying to stay busy. Good luck to all having surgery today. Sending you healing thoughts!

I'm so sorry, dsmith! That happened to me, too, but it all worked out. I was too busy thinking of the procedure to even THINK about how I hadn't had anything to eat or drink for over 12 hours. I was also allowed to go home the following evening.

Best of luck!!! ????

When I vomited after surgery; what came up was burned blood and it reeked. Its possible that you can taste it or smell it on your burps. The nurses said that the nausea was normal for sleeve patients and it usually goes away once all that blood is out.

Maybe I should of just barfed it out at first! Came close quite a few times. LOL

Barfing is not fun! Neither is the nausea! Just hang in there and it will get better. Your doc knows what he is doing and if it gets too bad: call your medical team.

I am 2 days post op and it has been rough. I haven't been able to pass any gas and that's been very uncomfortable. Still at the hospital because I'm not keeping things down well. Last night was the worst I was dry heaving for about an hour and it was hurting at my incision area horribly. I'm walking n sipping my brains out but not having very much luck. Hopefully things will start getting better.

Day 3! It really does get better each day! Day of surgery was spent in a painkiller haze..the next day was a few bouts of nausea and three dry heaves (Awful!!). Day 2 I got to come home which is so much better than the hospital!

I think I have been very lucky...no gas pain and no more nausea...my Surgeon sent me home with an "On Q pain management system" Basically to skinny catheters that were threaded through the surgical site that were attached a "ball" which delivered a constant stream of pain killers directly to my stomach area for 72 hours. I just pulled those out (that was interesting!) and took a pain pill....hopefully my last.

My only problem so far has been getting fluids and Protein in...I feel like I am constantly sipping, yet I have only gotten halfway to goal

SparkleCat I hear you -- I am day 4 post op and the gas elephant that sat on my will only go away if I get out and walk & drink those fluids. I've started weaning myself off of my pain meds, seems its only at night that I need them. I know its 64 oz of fluids as the goal, but nowhere in my mountains of info does it say what the caloric/protein should be. I'm just shooting for 800 cal/80 grams Protein. I am nowhere near making that, I don't feel poorly but I just have trouble pacing the hourly 3-4 oz of food or Fluid. I feel like I can get up & get going but I feel strapped to my house and my 4 ounce cup this week.

Hopefully on Monday (my 1 week sleeversary) my doctor will put me on purees (3 meals a day). I am hoping that will be soooo much easier to manage.

Stick with it day 1,2,3'ers...they aren't lying to you when they say it gets a little better every day. I can't believe how different I feel day 4.

Sitting here in disbelief that it's finally done. Arrived home around 7 this evening and feeling Not so bad. Sore and swollen but no nausea, slight gas pains, still got my drain in and I still admit to feeling better each day and not regretting my decision one bit. Lost 12 lbs since being admitted. I see a promising future...good luck all my sleeved buddies !! It will be great!!

I need help guys, I am not getting in the liquids. It's not because it hurts or anything, it's just that I have no desire for anything. No thirst, no hunger. I have to make a conscious effort to remember to drink. And it's the way they want me to drink. 1 ounce every 15 mins. I just can't stay with it. If I could just drink the whole four ounces and be done with it maybe it would be easier. But alas I am a rule follower who thinks the sky will fall if I don't follow to the letter. Have any of u drank four ounces at once. I was sleeved on April 22, is it too soon to try.

Feel 10x better today. The first 6-8 hours were pretty rough. Not a lot of pain really, just a lot of discomfort and feeling yukky from anesthesia. I couldn't stay awake to drink and walk like I wanted to but didn't sleep well either due to discomfort.

I'm drinking well without stomach pain. Mostly pain in my shoulders from the gas they pump in during surgery, and in the middle of my chest from hernia repair. I didn't know I had a hernia, glad it's fixed.

My blood work looks great this morning, just magnesium a little low so they gave me some in my IV. Minimal blood loss. dressings look great, just a drop or 2 of drainage.

I have no drain thank God, they took of the oxygen, catheter, and IV. Pain is very bearable. I have no hunger but am managing to get my fluids in by just sipping as much as possible.

I cleaned up and brushed my teeth and got my own nightgown on. Took a long walk. Looking forward to getting home this afternoon.

Hope you are all healing well!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
