What did you tell people at work?

Recommended Posts

Thank you for this TOPIC, I've been comtemplating as well. When I went to a support group, I mentioned that I felt bad about telling a lie and she replied with great advice, "There are two kinds of lies; one that will hurt people and one that doesn't hurt people. The one you're telling is okay because its a nice way of keeping them out of your business". That made me feel better.

It's still a challenge as I work with more men than ladies, and they're not so nice. However, as some of you have mentioned, I may be comfortable later to tell my story.

I only told my husband and my mother. People at work think I'm having a hysterectomy.

I am not interested in hearing everyone else's opinions about what I should be doing, nor in answering a million questions.

Most of the women I work with are trying really hard to lose weight and although most are smaller than me, I'm just not interested in talking about it. That's all they talk about is their food and Zumba.

I don't want people asking me what I'm eating and why. It could be that as more time goes on I feel comfortable talking about it but not now.

My surgery is scheduled for August 4th and I have told people on my job about my decision. I am comforable with my choice and resolute so no one's ideas/comments are going to affect my decision. I do understand that it is a personal decison and not everyone will want to share such personal information, nor should they feel they have to. My coworkers have seen me struggle with my weight through all of my dieting attempts (Optifast, Nutrisystem, Proti Diet, etc); after August, they'll get to see me succeed with my sleeve surgery.

I am extremely proud of my decision and this journey I am about to embark upon. That being said, I only told my boss and three close coworkers (out of 40) and outside the office my husband, two daughters and two friends. I am not embarrassed only want to surround myself with positive supporting folks. In time they may know the whole journey tale but for now just plan to tell the truth about the weight loss.....portion control, limited carbs, no sugar and exercise.

Exactly how I feel. .like I'm living a lie..but I really don't want to tell any coworkers. .I'm a very private person..wonder if I was having a different surgery if I would of felt bad not telling people my business. .oh I wonder! !

It's none of their business! I don't know why we feel like we are obligated to share intimate details of our lives with our coworkers. If you feel comfortable that's fine but personally I don't.

I have seen people use personal information against me and other people and I'm not having it.

If you were having a hysterectomy or something would you tell them? Why do you think it's any of their business?

I'm not telling anyone other than my husband and son.

I am very private person and certainly don't want to tell those overly nosey gossiping vultures at my office.

Government job and all they do is talk talk talk (just like most places) about each other behind their backs and about every little thing. Plus I don't want anyone's opinion or trying to change my mind, this decision has taken me years to finally do so it's my personal business!

Honestly I didn't feel any need to tell anyone at work but then my boss said, "Just don't lie about it like other people I know. One girl said she does Water aerobics and I had to tell her to stop lying." Really? Wow. I don't think it's lying if she really is doing aerobics but it's not their business "how" she's losing weight anyways! If you had a Tummy Tuck or something would that be everyone's business, too? I told her that maybe in time that I might feel free to discuss it but for now I'd appreciate it if she kept it between us. She said someone might be able to benefit from it if they were contemplating surgery...well not being ugly but they can do their research just like I did. Besides, I know most of the catty

Besides, I know most of the catty, two faced people that would be bold enough to ask me directly are not asking because they need help to lose weight. It's because they are nosey. Another girl in my office had surgery and some of them were bold enough to ask me what she was doing to drop weight so quickly. I told them to ask her. Geez. Some people just have nerve! I wish I was confident to just not care and come straight out but it's like a bunch of mean girls in high school and of course they are all tiny...Oh well. I'll come up with something.

Super Great topic! Funny enough, I'm usually an open book but for some reason I knew exactly who I would be telling and who I wouldn't, personal life and work. I only told my boss who I love and is very cool and one of my very good co- worker girlfriends. I feel weird sometimes because I am super close to 2 other guys at work that I share a lot with but I didn't tell them. I may tell them after but for now, it's fun having something of my own :) My advise would be to only tell people who you know will support you. That's all you need right now!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
