Anyone having surgery in May

Recommended Posts

I feel like shit! I can't take anything but Tylenol, the hard stuff makes me sick. I just want the pain to go away! How long until it stops??,

You will go through pain for 2 days. Then what feels like hunger for a few days. I'm 8 days post op and finally feel somewhat better.

My stomach hurts from the surgery, I can't take the pain meds because they make me sick, so I'm only on Tylenol.

I also haven't tolerated pain meds very well. My doctor just put me on a muscle relaxer. The left side of my tummy hurts pretty good even after 17 days. It is getting better but I am a slow healer. So I am going to give it a try and hope this makes a difference. I only have 4 incisions and the left tummy incision was the one they used the most thus hurts the most. I am walking 30 minutes a day but my biggest problem is Constipation. Ugh! I am taking the daily liquid stool softener but already had to use laxative once and probably going to have to use again. I move onto puréed foods tomorrow. Any suggestions?

Hi angelface811, I was told to use sf milk of magnesia 2 tablespoons every 4 hours. It's nasty so I put into my night Protein Shake and then again in the morning. Easiest poop ever, tmi :)

I'm not having that feeling at all, and it worries me. I'm sure you will feel better soon.

My surgery was on Wednesday, 21 May. The surgery went off without a hitch. Surgery was scheduled for 0730 and by 1500 I was recovering in my room. Very little nausea, moderate pain (using very little pain killers), and keeping down my liquids. All seems to be going well except for the Constipation factor and feeling full. The doctors let me come home today. I want to fast forward to where I feel normal again. Not bruised and icky.

A quick tip for those who haven't had surgery yet. Day before surgery I took 3/4 bottle of Miralax. Cleaned me right out.. Not having Constipation or worrying about a bm is definitely easier. I remember last surgery I was in agony from constipation. ????

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
