Surgery...before or after move?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm planning on moving over the summer.

I'm supposed to meet my surgeon at the end of the month. And am hoping and praying I get a date in the next month.

I really don't want to start the process all over again. I've been preparing since July 2013.

What advise can you give?

it truly is a very personal choice but moving is already a highly stressful thing to do and if you move before surgery thats just putting more stress on your body to me... but if you wait until your moved you can be settled in :) and less stress than that of surgery and a move. Good Luck

Personally I would rather be closer to my surgeon for ongoing treatment. I would wait until after you move to get the surgery. You shouldn't have to start over...I would assume that the new surgeon will take everything already done for our current surgeon.

I had surgery in Mexico, and moved two weeks later. I'd hate for you to spend all this time and energy waiting to get approved only to have to start all over. Maybe you could find a new PCP at the new location have your surgeon write orders for the blood work you'll need in follow up. I think you'll be fine, but trust your instincts! Age and health issues need to be considered. If your surgeon is not worried about it then you should not worry!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
