3 Weeks post op

Recommended Posts

I went and seen my doctor yesterday, for the first time since my surgery. It has now been 3 weeks and I am down 10 pounds. I was just wondering if this was about average? I am goign for my first fill in 2 weeks. I thought that was kind of soon, but I really have no idea?

Courtney, Congratulations on the great weight loss! Do you feel like you need a fill yet? If you're feeling satisfied after your meals and getting your full Water intake in and losing weight, you don't need one yet. I waited 2 months. Teresa's been banded since 4/04 and still hasn't had a fill yet. Others have had a couple of fills in that amount of time. It's a very individualized thing. No two people (and drs.) are the same.

Hi Courtney... my first fill was originally scheduled for 6 weeks post-op but I didn't end up having it until 8 wks post-op due to problems I was having. I think it really depends on how restricted you are feeling. I was very restricted up until my 8th week post-op... then I was WIDE open... a cornish game hen could have slipped through whole at that point. Sounds like you are doing great with your weight-loss!

Darcy thats only funny because it's real close to the truth , right?

Courtney, My Doc. says if your losing 2 to 3 lbs. a week then good. Also if you 3 to 4 weeks with no weight loss it's time for a fill.

Hope this helps,

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
