They have to send in the paper work to the insurance company and wait for their approval.

My surgeon's office is booked about 8-9 weeks out. I walked in for the first time on 2/21 and my surgery date is 4/15. Now, I was 95% sure I had already met the 6 month diet requirement for Carefirst BCBS (Maryland) so all I needed was a psychological eval. I was also very lucky that the insurance process didn't take long. My office submitted quickly and my response was only a few days.

I had my first appointment last week on wednesday. It took about 30 minutes. the dr explained the prociedure and talked to me about why i wanted which surgery to see if it was a good fit for me. I will be done with my last pre--op class/apt middle of next month. and should have my surgery between the middle of may and early june. :) i've heard people waiting between 6 and 9 months to get it all done due to insurance requirements. but i have tricare so the 6 month weight thing isnt required. 3-4mo process for me.

I attended a seminar in December, had my first meeting with the surgeon on the 21st of January. From there it was all the testing and various appointments. My surgery was approved by insurance before I even had all my tests completed. (BCBS-IL) My surgery is this coming Tuesday the 18th so it took 2 months. I had my last pre-op with the surgeon today - It's a go. Best of luck Amanda.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
