2nd fill... Replacement band! And this one is different!

Recommended Posts

Hi all. I got my first band in 2005, and reached goal weight within 12 months. My band was an original J &J, and had 5 ml capacity... And basically, I had restriction from day 1. Fast forward 7 years... I woke up and realised I had no restriction. No pain, just no restriction and felt hunger... Something I'd forgotten! And I fed that sucker. :) went to the doctor who refilled... Back again a week later. Tried again. Various X-rays, barium X-rays, gastroscopy, a port replacement and then, finally... 12 months later, a new band.

5 months in and I'm losing weight, but this band is so different. Im down about 44 lbs, but I'm suffering reflux and have only a small fill. Yep, I'm going back to have this looked at. I've been at this for too long to let it slide, but wow. It's different. Anyone else got a second band?

I think that I might need a second band. I had mine put in Oct 2009. I had 2 slips, 2nd came with a revision. I have NEVER lost weight since the revision and just gradually gained. I have 5 cc in my band and can't tolerate any more. I have an apt with my surgeon this month. I might ask about a new band! Karen

Hi Kil. In Australia a gastric sleeve seems to be the preferred option. I'm glad to be losing the weight I put back, but it is harder this time! If your current weight is 144 you must be looking fabulous! I'm heading to Florida in June for a conference and hope I'm close to my goal :) I love my band, and am happier with I, but my goodness reflux is awful when I can eat things I really shouldn't. This new band is a real contradiction!

No, unfortunately, I am no longer 144, just too lazy to correct teh weight. I have gained, enough that I may see if I can get a replacement to jump start my losses. I have 3 weeks until my next appointment. I gained like 3 lbs this weekend(?) How, who knows! Karen

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
