I am 8 weeks out. I have a terrible indigestion burning in my stomach. I take dexilant a very strong acid reducer. Doesn't seem to be helping. Does this go away eventually? I was told that this surgery cures acid reflux...

Hmmmm....I've heard it can cure acid reflux, or it can make it worse, or it can cause acid reflux when you never had it before (that was the case with me) OR some people remain blissfully acid reflux free. It's all over the map. My surgeon said it may or may not get better over time. I just have a mild case so I take OTC meds for it when needed.

It may be that you need to switch to a different medicine; there are different types out there I believe (PPI, H2 blockers) and maybe just like with allergy medicines one will address your problem better than another. It make take some trial and error.

I definitely suggest that you talk to your doctor about it. The doctor is the best person to help you get some relief.

good luck!

Agree with all the above. Particularly the bit about changing or alternating your drugs.

I was put on lanzaprole (sp/ph) - or something similar when I left the hospital.

Within a couple of days, I went on Omeprazole as I was drowning in my own bile. Like, seriously drowning in it.

Go back to your doctor and get them to swap out your PPI. I take one in the morning, sometimes one in the evening and I'm all good.

Without them.. I'd be in trouble.

Apparently the acid can ease after 6-12 months, as the stomach relaxes a bit. Sometimes it doesn't and a RNY is required as a follow up surgery to get rid of it if it is truly very very bad.

I'm not freaking out yet, as I can go a couple of days without a PPI if I'm careful with my diet. On this basis, I'm assuming I should be okay (fingers crossed) when my stomach gives a bit.. (which it is starting to).

Hang in there. :)

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
