Does removing the drain = pain?

Recommended Posts

Hey! Tomorrow I will be one week post-op! I am getting my drain taken out (hooray!!!) but I'm afraid it's going to be painful. My doc said it's 'uncomfortable', but how uncomfortable are we talking about here? This is definitely my anxiety kicking in... :)

I would say more weird than uncomfortable! Not bad at all-very quick too. Don't stress. :)

I would say uncomfortable is accurate, but it's so fast, it's really a non-issue. You'll be happy to have it gone!

Awesome. Thanks guys!! I've been having major issues! I developed an infection from the vaccine they gave me at the hospital. I was running a fever, and my arm hurt worse than the actual surgery. Crazy! Also, I haven't been taking any pain meds because I'm allergic to codeine. Occasionally I have taken Tylenol for the fever, but I'm just trying to get through it. Hasn't been too bad! Hahaha! I seriously can't wait to get the drain out and be able to shower normally! Hahaha! Sorry if that's tmi!

When my drain was removed it HURT like HE!!. I was already in PAIN because the drain overinflated during the night. I was laying on the table in the room and he yanked it out. I screamed. :o He's lucky I didn't kick him! It was quick and I felt 80% better almost instantly.

Hahaha wow! I really hope it goes quickly! About how fast are we talking here? Like, 5 seconds? Please say yes, please say yes, please say yes! ;)

I would say 5 to 10 seconds is about accurate. It was really quick! I held my husbands hand and squeezed my eyes closed. My husband started laughing and told me I could let go of his hand it was over lol!

Have you ever been in a car and went over a hill too fast and got that flip flop feeling in your tummy? Or the drop in a roller coaster feeling? That's what it felt like when the pulled my drain. Not painful just weird.

Less than 5 seconds. It was really quick for me.

Honestly it was the worst pain I felt, it felt like he was pulling my intestines out! But it was over in 5-10 seconds and instantly I felt better.

Sad!!! That sucks! It wasn't bad. My instinct was to put my hand close to it, so he had my mom hold my hands. He was like, "are you ready?" I said, stalling "....wait...how fast are we talking about here?" And he said, "Like one, two, three!" He was pulling it out as he was talking! It felt soooo weird!! I felt it a lot on my right side. Then it moved to the left..... Hahaha! It hurt a little bit but wasn't that bad!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
