March 24,2013 is my date! I will have surgery in La Jolla, CA at Wittgrove Bariatric center Scripps with Dr. Wittgrove. I want to do this all right, but I'm scared to fail. I'm also really scared of having tons of loose skin. I'm 5'9 240 and would like to weigh 160. My highest weight was 262 6 years ago and I started VSG insurance requirements January 2014. How bad was the liquid to mushy food to solid food stages? I'm nervous about liquids only. I tried a liquid diet once and lasted a day it was so horrible! Any feedback or advice would be great! I know my thoughts are all over the place, but just writing what's on my mind

Congratulations on getting a date! I'm on day 8 of the pre-op liquid diet and I'm not going to lie...it pretty much sucks. However, it gets much, much better about day 3. If you can make it through the first couple of days, you will feel much better. I had a horrible headache on day 2 and way super cranky and emotional...but now I don't notice the hunger so much. It's also important to stay hydrated throughout. I notice that I get hungrier on days when I don't get in all of my fluids. Plus...it's only 2 weeks to a better life...I can do anything for 2 weeks. Good luck to you!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
