2 Post-Op Q's Need Some Help?!?!

Recommended Posts

Couple Q's I need answers to?

1) Has anyone suffered from a Plugged up Ear after Surgery? I had Surgery on Tuesday, came home yesterday and on the way home my Left Ear Plugged up. I've tried almost everything to Un-plug it. Sudafed, Ear Wax Cleaner, Popping my jaw, holding my nose and blowing, but it won't un-plug, starting to go {{{crazy}}}!!!

2) I was told I'm suppose to consume a Gallon of Water a day! How is this even near possible? I'm having a hard time downing two 20oz bottles, and half of that comes back up when I Burp, is this normal?

Thanks For Your :help:

Rocko ,

I can't help you with the ear prob. I wish I could.

I think or I hope you have the Water amount wrong .

Check again with your doctor.

One of my online friends who was banded Jan 30 07 was suppose to drink 2 oz ever hour for example. My doctor in Louisville Ky didn't give me any directions on water. Mine was just a general guideline of 64 oz a day and include any Soup etc in that daily total.

The burping yes I have had. I THINK I drank to fast when it happened.

I wish I could have more or better answers for you. Hopefully someone in the medical profession will post .

Good luck your band sister,:phanvan

I have no idea about the ear thing, that is the first I have ever heard of anyone having that problem after banding.

As for the Water, I know it was a good week after my surgery before I could really drink any significant amount. You are probably still pretty swollen from your surgery, and may be for a few more days yet. I wouldn't worry too much right now, as long as you are getting enough in and keeping enough down to where you don't get dehydrated.

No clue on the earwax thing!! LOL I hope it clears up for you.

As for the Water... that sounds like too much right away. For myself until two weeks post-up I had to drink about 4 oz an hour for the time I was awake... I would call your doc to make sure!

Congrats on your band!!

Rocko...

I had the ear thing happen to me a couple of years ago, it was just an excess of wax buildup, and what finally cleared it up was a few drops of warmed, but not hot sweet oil put in there, and it helped to soften the earwax, so my body could get rid of it easier. Even at that, it still took a couple of days to clear up.

As for the Water, I was told to sip, sip, sip, sip, sip, and then sip some more, aiming for 64 ozs every day. It was almost a week before I could get more than 32 ozs in, but I kept sipping away.... You don't want to try to drink too fast, or it will come back up.

Now I find it very easy to get my 64 ozs PLUS in every day, and that's ONLY Water. I don't even count anything else I drink. I do try to get an extra 24 ozs in when I work out, too. Sometimes that's difficult.

FYI, Sweet oil is olive oil. Makes life easier to get it out of your kitchen cabinet than going to the drug store.

A gallon? Wow, that seems like a lot, lot, lot. Half a gallon I can see (64 oz).

Uh, I might be wrong, but I was under the distinct impression that it is unwise to put anything in your ear canal that is not sterile.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
