Question about Fort Carson

Recommended Posts

I went to my pcm (i have tricare prime, and am on Carson) she sent out a referral for me to get gastric bypass. so now i am just waiting on the paper from tricare about the referral.

Has anyone on here had gastric bypass at Evans Army Community Hospital on Fort Carson? How did it go? how was the surgeon--what all did you have to do between the referral and the surgery date. TIA

Megan,

Congrats on your decision to pursue WLS! I subscribe to a lot of YouTube channels, and I just subscribed to a military spouse who has recently started her process. While she is not stationed at Fort Carson, I thought I would share her channel because some of the information that she provides about the process may help you know what to expect with your benefits as well. So far her videos cover getting approval through her PCP and meeting with the bariatric intake coordinator. I hope this helps, and good luck in your journey! http://www.youtube.com/channel/UCsz_S6E08ySK2ADcOwzpvAQ

Well i went into the surgery clinic in the hospita, this morning to get copies of all the paperwork, and got myself on the list for next months wls support group (which aparently they require) they're estimating my surgery date for the beginning of may. :) so ill be doing that. DH's sgt is getting a leave packet together with open dates so when i have my surgery he can basically just have it ready to go already approved and all. :)

Im excited about this because i am finally going to lose the weight! but at the same time i think im going to have to hold a funeral for mexican food. (like taco's and steak fajita's that are all calorie and no good for me lol)

I also am having my surgery in May at Evans. All my pre-surgery work up is complete and I could have had my surgery this month, but due to my personal schedule, I am waiting until May. There is a weekly support group available and there are women who range many stages of WLS. From ones like me who are yet to have surgery to ones who are a few years out.

I just started this process, I have to have my Gallbladder out so I am trying to get into all the appointments they require. Had my first wellness, go Thursday for the Bodpod, first nutrition meeting tomorrow and I see the physcoligest twice this week. Next week just as crazy.

Does anyone know Dr Mayfield? Best of luck to you all.

Hi

I am at Ft Carson, had the sleeve done in February, 2013 by Dr Wilcox. He also performed my Tummy Tuck in May, 2014. There is a Carson Bariatric Support Group FB page. The team at Evans is excellent.

I did not have Dr Mayfield for any of my bariatric care, but he did do another, non related procedure for me and I was completely confident in the care he provided.

Susan

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
