You know you're a failure with your band when...........

Recommended Posts

Hi:

A little background first. Small band placed July 2007. Slipped band and revised to larger band July 2010. Then, erosion, and band removed July 2013. I know I've gained a lot of weight without the band, and even with the larger band. But, I feel like I'm officially a failure now that I noticed that my Lap Band surgeon took me off of his website.

I'm not going to let it get to me. I'm in the beginning stages of trying to get sleeved. Now my goal is get be successful enough to get back on his website, and I hope to do it before the end of this year!

Sue

Don't feel that way!

The band is an awful device. I would never ever put something foreign on my body!

Get the sleeve you will do so much better. Stay on track with your intake. You know what it takes!

Of course you will be back on his website! Honestly, I know three different people who had the band and every one of them encountered a problem. 2 of them are now sleeve patients and the other has gained back all of her weight since she had it removed and is looking into RNY. You are NOT a failure. In the opinion of my surgeon, the band is a flawed device, which is why he doesn't even do band surgeries anymore. The band absolutely does work for some people and that is wonderful but don't beat yourself up because it didn't work for you.

The issue is when most who have a band had surgery it was the less invasive alternative. Fast forward 7-10 years and the sleeve has taken its place. Just like technology improved so does medicine. Best of luck with your sleeve and don't beat yourself up because it didn't work.

I met with my doctor February 19. Of course he will remove the lap band but he said if there a lot of scar tissue that I would have to wait three months after to get the sleeve done. He is gonna do an upper GI test but he said the only way to tell is when the lap band is removed. That really made me depressed. I'm just praying that he will get to do all at once an my insurance will approve ASAP. Please pray that all ins up good for me.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
