I was sleeved last week and was wondering how long will it take before I can sleep on my stomach. I had a sleep study done before surgery and they said I had mild sleep apnea but didn't require a Cpap. Since I have been home I have not been sleeping well and have been waking up with headaches. I am going to see my pcp but was thinking it probably would take some time before I can get another sleep study done. So in the mean time I am sleeping on my side -back with a pillow and dreading sleeping. Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

It might take up to 3/4 weeks depending on how fast your incision heals. I too was tossing and turning when I first came home, try a soft pillow under you and see if that helps. Good luck!

Great question! I too am a tummy sleeper and have 6 days before my date, so that crossed my mind too.

Hi, I am I stomach sleeper too. I was able to sleep on my stomach after three weeks, although there was a little pain. I would prop pillows in front and behind me, but always ended up on my stomach. I am almost 6 weeks out and can sleep on my stomach with no pain at all. I couldn't wait for that time to come (which was at about 5 weeks). Congrats on your surgery!!

Ask your doc. I can sleep a wink except on my stomach. I was very grouchy in the hospital post surgery 'cause I was laying on my back in the bed. I asked my surgeon on day 2 post surgery when I could roll over and try to sleep. He said "you can do it today but you might not enjoy it. It won't hurt my stitches but it may hurt like crazy". He was right that it was hard to roll over but I slept like a baby. I would check that your doctor gives the OK before trying it but I predict he will say "go for it". Sleep well and sweet dreams.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
