34 days out and need advice/encouragement

Recommended Posts

I am 34 days out of my surgery and I am on soft foods now but when I eat it still hurts a little, is this normal? and how long before it goes away. I guess my real concern is that 2 1/2 weeks from now I am going on a cruise. I had talked to my doctor about this before the surgery, I am a travel agent and I have a large group going and one of them is getting married so I really wanted to be there to make sure everything went ok, but now I am just worried if I can handle it or not. It is only a 4 day cruise thank goodness, but I just made myself an egg and it bothered me a little going down. definitely have to work at the eating slower thing..that is my own fault I know but it just feel uncomfortable when I eat, when does that go away?

At the 1-2 month mark, I think I was still sort of uncomfortable when I ate. It's hard to get used to how much is the right amount & you can't know how you will react to new foods as you introduce them back in to your diet. Slowing down was a big thing for me...the 3 times I threw up postop happened because I was eating too fast. Even now, at almost 8 months out, I can still get uncomfortable once in awhile. I just try to start each meal slowly & if I notice a bit of discomfort I stop eating for a few minutes to see if it settles down. It doesn't happen often, but I still try to be mindful of it.

I am already feeling discouraged by only losing 18 lbs in the last 34 days, and I know we are not all the same, but to be going thru all of this and not lose definitely made it harder. I went thru a 3 week stall where I didn't lose anything.

Look at the bigger picture. If you lose 18 lbs every 34 days, in a little over 6 months you will have lost over 100 lbs.

I am going on a cruise next month myself :) ... but I'm further along than you... at my 3 month mark (less than actually), I went to Vegas and got married... I was able to eat regular foods... following the guidelines... but slowly and small bites.... you can do this!

You may want to check about bringing on your Protein... you will need it...

I was planning on bringing some Protein bars with me and my sister lives in florida so I told her to go pick up some pre made Protein drinks and bring them with her so I don't have to fly with them. I am worried about eating too fast and getting sick in the dining room! And I am worried that my stomach is going to hurt every time I eat, I just wish that feeling would go away

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
