Recommended Posts

I had surgery 1-29. I have gained 7 pounds since starting pureed foods. I can not get a handle on this head hunger crap! Im not hungry yet I eat. I eat crap I KNOW I shouldn't eat. I need help and please done preach at me I have had enough of that by my "friends" and myself.

Do I start all over maybe a day a Clear Liquids and a cpl days of full? I just dont know what to do. I am in full depression mood too. Please.. any ideas any advice any words of wisdom.

Thank you for not spreading negativity

I haven't had the surgery yet....but I did read that it is normal sometimes to feel depressed and have mood swings...perhaps your doctor could see if you need some temp meds till you are feeling a little better..I know that it has to be such a huge adjustment...mentally and physically so don't be so hard on yourself...I also read that someone said that taking the prilosec or something like that helped with the hunger not sure how...when you feel hungry and want to eat maybe you could call a friend or surf the web till it passed....only suggestions....not sure if they will help but I hope so...I'll say a prayer also.

Hi eyoung. This surgery is very difficult as are the life changes so its not uncommon for us to become depressed and make poor choices. We've always self medicated with food and that is what we are comfortable with. Tomorrow is another day and you can start over with your Protein Shakes and then get back on the diet, You can do this!!!! Get your mind back on track by figuring out why you had this surgery and what your goal is. You are the master of your journey.

I have bad head hunger as well. My only recourse is to always be eating Protein. Even if I eat outside of a meal I make sure it's Protein. It's not the fries I really want, but it tamps down other cravings and fills me up too much to eat more stuff.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
