Surgery was 9 days ago and left, lower incision pain is almost unbearable. Stabbing, burning and pain like I've never experienced in my life. Called physician's office and nurse said everybody experiences this pain and it will stop when it stops. Not very comforting. Anyone else going thru this?

Had burning pain but it lasted a few seconds and stopped. I have read of other having pain when a nerve was cut or stitched. You can search and finds these threads.

I'm 20 days post op. I still have that pain. Surgeon and PA say it's normal, to keep myself comfortable with pain meds. My pain meds make me nauseous.

I find that the pain is worse 1-2 hours before I use the restroom (#2). My surgeon suggested colase twice a day. I also wasn't getting all 64 ounces of liquid in each day. I'm increasing water- I like warm lemon water each morning and evening. It has improved a little with the increased fluids and colase. I'm hoping it will continue to get better.

For me the left side was where they put the biggest instruments so it took the longest to stop hurting. It was exactly one month and I woke up and the pain was gone. Hang in there it will get better.

I'm 6 wks out and it just stopped. Week 3-6 my bowls effected my left side so bad. Your intestines run right through that area and hurt the healing incisions. It will get better

Thank you all for taking the time to respond. In the classes and support group meetings I attended prior to surgery, nobody ever mentioned this pain, which is why I thought something was horribly wrong. When the nurse in my doctor's office offered no solutions, just "everybody goes thru it" that wasn't much help either. Just hearing from those of you who have experienced this pain helps so much. When it happens, it is so severe, it honestly makes me scream out. I have withstood a lot of pain in my life, including several other serious operations, none of which hurt this bad. I hate being a complainer, so I will stop now and look so forward to when this stops. Thank you again for your responses.

Myself as well. I had my surgery in December. For some unknown reason last week I was experiencing a lot of bowel pain. I went to bed a couple of nights crying not feeling well. Not having good days in between those nights. Called the doc and they said sometimes this just happens. Could be trapped gas or bowels still getting straightened out. Who knows. Then I went back to my comfort foods of brothy soups. Took some stool softeners and gas X and walla. Had a great BM Then things just started to feel better immediately. It might just be one of those things that will flare up from time to time and we just have to power through. Take pain meds if necessary and take other OTC meds if necessary but try to stay positive. I know it's hard to do when you are hurting though.

I think I haven't described the pain correctly. It is not internal but external in an approximate 3 inch area around the lower left incision. When anything moves, like the familiar ripples of fat, it is like shockwaves of pain that I think is coming from nerves that were severed in surgery. I'm happy to report that I finally have some relief. I contacted my PCP this morning and she suggested I get an abdominal support surgical binder that lifts the abdomen and kind of holds everything in place. I have one now and it has given me so much relief that I feel like a new person. I called surgeon's office to make sure this was OK and nurse said "whatever works is fine." Please, if you hear of anyone having this horrible nerve pain, let them know that the abdominal binder has worked extremely well for at least one person.

Yes its nerve damage pain, mine was external and its nothing to do with the bowel movements, I had my surgery on the 20th of January and had the same problem, mine has slowly got better. At them moment its pretty mild though that same area feels numb to the touch, thankfully the burning pain has gone, now its more itchy and numb.

I'm sorry I misunderstood. I am kinda lucky I guess. After my hysterectomy most of my lower abdomen below my bellybutton is numb due to nerve damage. But having the sleeve done in September then the hiatal hernia repair in October then the sleeve to RNY conversion in December I have racked up on some new scars. I have several spots where it is still painful from time to time. Everyday is different and sometimes it's what I might be wearing that really aggravates the area. I can't wait for that to go away completely.
