    Incision question

Yes, I definitely experienced that horrible pain and I know exactly what you're describing. The only relief I got was from wearing an abdominal surgical binder. Actually, I bought two because I had to wear one while showering. I had the pain for about 4 weeks, and one morning I woke up, dreading sitting up because of the stabbing pain I would feel with any movement, and the pain was gone. It went away totally and completely with no lingering effects... gone but not forgotten. Look online at abdominal surgical binders and you will know what I'm talking about. It helped so much with the pain. Good luck.

    Silly question lol

Good Morning, I'm almost 8 months post-op and I started drinking coffee at 5 months out. I only have one cup a day, in the morning, with sugar substitute and skim milk. I know we are advised against this, but I've had absolutely no problems...or at least no obvious problems. I "admitted" this to the NP in my surgeon's office and she said, in her opinion, one cup a day is not hurting me. I'm not telling you it's OK for you, just answering your question.

So happy for you!!! Keep in touch because I can't wait to hear more "mind-blowing" news from you. I promise you it's coming :-)

    After surgery update!

It is so refreshing to read such a "positive" post!!! I can tell from what you said that you are going to be very successful. Congratulations and more good luck to you.
  5. Please stick with your decision not to tell and pay no attention to all of the advice you get from others, because you know best. I made the same decision, knowing that it didn't have to be final. If you decide later you want to let people know why you have lost so much weight, why your outlook on life is so positive, and all of the wonderful feelings that come from having WLS, then you can tell. Or, you can just say, like I have, "I am participating in a medically managed weight loss program." And, your statement "I truly believe that my healing from bariatric surgery will be as painful as was the depression." No, absolutely do not believe this!! Healing from bariatric surgery is a joy compared to healing from depression. I wish you all of the luck in the world and can't wait to hear more from you after your surgery.
  6. I had these same symptoms, not in the morning, but during the day. Happened a couple of times while I was walking and I felt like I was going to pass out. Long story short, after a visit to my primary care doctor, it was determined to be a combination of low blood pressure and low blood sugar. Honestly, I think my doctor didn't know which it was. She took me off of the blood pressure medication I was taking and prescribed something different, and she told me to try sips of orange juice - Tropicana 50 I think it's called. After a few weeks it stopped happening. I'm sorry you're experiencing this because I know it isn't a good feeling.

    why am I so angry

Wow!! I'm really surprised at how much energy you have!! At this stage post op there is no way that I could have cooked, cleaned, etc. You are doing extremely well and your anger is totally normal. About the intimacy thing - your husband is just as new at this as you are. Although you look the same right now, he knows there are big changes coming and has no idea what to expect. And, although you're entitled to be angry right now, constantly expressing it to your husband does not make you a very attractive target for intimacy. To answer your question, in my opinion, yes it is normal and it should have been covered completely with you during the psych appointment(s), if that was a requirement for you. I went back and forth between anger and sadness for a few weeks, then suddenly I was extremely happy with myself, which made everyone around me happy as well. At almost 6 months post op, to use your word, I'm truly ecstatic and life is wonderful!! Everything will be fine - you just haven't found your new normal yet.
  8. Keep in mind that the diet stages are designed by nutritionists who cannot possibly list everything you're allowed to drink/eat during each stage. I made of list of "questions/possibilities" early post-op and faxed them to the nutritionist associated with my surgeon's office. She approved some of the things, like what you're talking about, pulverized in the Ninja, and others she didn't approve. It can't hurt to ask. I understand you're not looking to cheat and really understand you're looking for options. The same things over and over become very tiring. Good luck!

So happy for you!! I remember being exactly where you are 5 months ago and I know how excited you are. Keep in touch about how you're feeling.

    Had surgery Tuesday 2/24

Oh my, I could have written the same thing. You are describing exactly how I felt. Please know that you will feel much better very soon. The stapler site you're talking about hurt me for about 6 weeks, and one morning I woke up and the pain was gone. It was not unbearable pain, just annoying pain. The nausea went away before I left the hospital. I went home with a prescription medication for nausea, but didn't need it. I'm almost 5 months post-op and I've lost 70+ lbs, I feel wonderful and have no regrets at all. You will be fine!!!

    Sore

Sounds "normal" to me. I was quite sore for at least 6 weeks, then magically all of the pain stopped. I went back to work after 3 weeks too, even though not approved by my surgeon. Although it was painful, I have no regrets, and believe it helped me to recover faster. Good Luck to you !!

    Dehydration

Please call your surgeon's office to describe what's happening to you and ask them your questions, since nobody on this forum could legitimately answer you. Good luck to you and hope you're feeling better soon.

    What am I feeling?

Do you still feel that it's "the easy way out?" I had surgery on 2/6/14, and I have no regrets at all. I also know for sure that it is not the easy way out and the emotional ups and downs are very normal and to be expected. I'm glad that you feel good about your decision and I wish you only the best.
  14. Surgery was 9 days ago and left, lower incision pain is almost unbearable. Stabbing, burning and pain like I've never experienced in my life. Called physician's office and nurse said everybody experiences this pain and it will stop when it stops. Not very comforting. Anyone else going thru this?
  15. I think I haven't described the pain correctly. It is not internal but external in an approximate 3 inch area around the lower left incision. When anything moves, like the familiar ripples of fat, it is like shockwaves of pain that I think is coming from nerves that were severed in surgery. I'm happy to report that I finally have some relief. I contacted my PCP this morning and she suggested I get an abdominal support surgical binder that lifts the abdomen and kind of holds everything in place. I have one now and it has given me so much relief that I feel like a new person. I called surgeon's office to make sure this was OK and nurse said "whatever works is fine." Please, if you hear of anyone having this horrible nerve pain, let them know that the abdominal binder has worked extremely well for at least one person.

  17. Thank you all for taking the time to respond. In the classes and support group meetings I attended prior to surgery, nobody ever mentioned this pain, which is why I thought something was horribly wrong. When the nurse in my doctor's office offered no solutions, just "everybody goes thru it" that wasn't much help either. Just hearing from those of you who have experienced this pain helps so much. When it happens, it is so severe, it honestly makes me scream out. I have withstood a lot of pain in my life, including several other serious operations, none of which hurt this bad. I hate being a complainer, so I will stop now and look so forward to when this stops. Thank you again for your responses.
