need a drink

Recommended Posts

I was a big drinker (not *that* bad but worse than what I should) pre surgery. It's just a great way to slow down, sip something relaxing and de-stress from work

So 2 months post surgery, I've dramatically reduced down my drinks but can't give it up entirely...

Wine (prefer non bubbly - or sitting out for a while if it is bubbly)

I like chocolate Vodka with seltzer Water - but I have a soda stream to make it just a little bit carbonated

pineapple juice and vodka

I will have a sip or two of my fiancé's beer, but the carbonation doesn't sit well with me, so a sip or two for the taste but not the discomfort.

I will add that the more I limit and avoid alcohol, the faster the scale goes down.

Hi I'm new to this site! 5 weeks today that I had the sleeve. I want to sip a glass of wine, but am afraid it is too early. How long did you wait post op before having any alcohol?

I waited till I was cleared by my Doctor at 6 months.

I had the surgery 2 weeks ago and I had a glass of wine and a glass of blackberry brandy and both sit great but I found the taste budes changed unless since I have not drank a lot of sweet stuff that the brandy was really sweet.

Ty all, I was a high tolerance person, does the tolerance go down a lot? I drank all 70 to 100 proof liquor, should I get the lower proof stuff?

Yes. I used to drink a bottle of wine easy. 6 months out and I'm suffering a hangover from one glass.

My tolerance went down as well...

If you prefer the taste of the 70 to 100 proof, then you'll end up drinking less of it. If you want to drink more volume, then I'd suggest to get less proof.

You should be eating less calories than before surgery so that lowers tolerance.

You'll be weighing less so that lowers tolerance too.

I've learned to slow down and enjoy the drink more than just drinking to drink

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
