I've had people tell me it was the easy way out, then I tell them everything that I and every other WLS patient have to go through prior to and after surgery. That usually puts it into perspective to them. A lot of people don't understand that we STILL have to watch what we eat and exercise, just like everyone else does. And it's a lot easier for some of us to regain weight than it is for a lot of them. They are generally uneducated about WLS and have absolutely NO CLUE what all it entails.

Right a bunch of roid heads have opinions on WLS that matter? In reference to the article itself: Wow people really need to not comment on things they have absolutely no understanding of. As I've learned it's one thing to be thought of as foolish and quite another to open your mouth and prove it.

Yup. The same way chemo is the easy way out of cancer.

Driving to work instead of walking is the easy way out.

Using the washing machine instead of pounding out your clothes in the stream is the easy way out.

Buying your food at the store instead of growing/killing it is the easy way out.

I could go on for days...

Bottom line? I did what's best for me and my family and that's all that matters. I really don't give a flying fart what someone else thinks of my decision.

50 people on a 'weightlifters' website decided to have a 'vote' followed by a 'serious' 'discussion' (all, what, 8 of them?) about WLS.....

LMFAOHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

... 'nuff said.

I used to be on a bodybuilders forum. Had to leave. The influence of the intellectual vacuum was causing my verbal functions to shut down. I wanted to look like the Hulk, not talk like him.

I know of people who think this is the easy way out, and we all know they are wrong. However I have an acquaintance that is getting ready to have the sleeve done. He believes it is the easy way out. That the pull of a few sutures and he will drop the weight off as easy as snapping you fingers. To me he is setting himself up for a big let down. The perception is that once we have the surgery we never struggle with our eating habits again. That before it was all about the lack of "will power". Since having the bypass 1.5 years ago I can honestly say that my will power was never an issue. It takes more will power now to eat right and take care of myself.

I think those people that have been with me since the beginning have seen that this is a daily struggle. Some days are easier than others, but we all still have the "fat voice" in our heads.

I have a couple of friends that get on an exercise kick and buy equipment. Stationary bikes, treadmills, barbells.....sit gathering dust.....avoided.

Tools don't use themselves.

This is something I was JUST talking about with someone today. They didn't understand why I was still having issues. People that haven't been there have no idea about the addiction and the hold it has on us.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
