Jan 30th surgery, new to the app

Recommended Posts

Hello! I had surgery jan 30, 2014. I'm struggling to understand what I need to be eating. 5 days post op I realized I could have been having Soups, sf pudding. I had been miserable and extremely nauseous only eating Protein Shakes. Any way, I wanted to introduce myself and say thank goodness there is an easily accessible support group. So today is day 6 post op and I've lost 20lbs.

Great job! Congrats and welcome!

Didn't your doctor give you a booklet on the do's and don'ts?

You will get lots of help here!

Good luck!

You need to check with your surgeon's office/nutritionist. They must have diet information for you. I got a binder!

Yes they did give me one but I must have been confused when I left. The person who was supposed to give me discharge information and discussion was in a meeting when I was discharged so the nurse gave me a rundown and I thought I was on the stage 1 liquid diet for 8 days. Come to find out I was on stage 2 after 24 hrs which includes cream Soups, sf pudding, yogurt, cottage cheese. I was so annoyed because I had been so fatigued and nauseas. I had "food" last night once I read over my booklet again and I'm feeling so much better.

They shouldn't have released you until they gave you the info, imo :(

BUT... you are on track, so it's all good.

You are probably fatigued more because of the surgery itself...you are still healing, give your body time to recover! If the nausea continues, contact your doctor, a lot of us needed something for nausea just after the surgery...and keep going with your Water, VITAL ingredient!

I lost 12 lbs from date of surgery. I haven't been eating much due to the post above and have been walking every day. Walking every day is so exhausting!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
