MMPI personality test/MBMD for Psych evaluation

Recommended Posts

Has anyone else had to take these personality tests as a part of the psych evaluation? I had my appt. today and at the end of the session my Dr said I needed to fill out these two tests, return them and he would make his decision on my bypass surgery after he gets the scores back. I am a band to RNY revision, so I had the psych evaluation before that surgery in 2007 w/someone else and didn't have to go thru quite this much. Just wondering what it was like for others.

thanks.

I was interviewed by a psychologist and answered several questions that was part of a required course that also included a nutritionist. I attended 12 meetings.

They seriously put you through an MMPI? That is nuts. It is a good method of detecting deception but it can reveal some pretty ridiculous results. The psych must have wanted to be thorough. Anyways, I wouldn't worry too much. I saw a psych that asked me about my support systems and expectations. He did have access to my psych records though. I have depression and anxiety and a pretty lengthy history. Normally the requirements are a good understanding of the procedure, reasonable expectations, and no mental defect that would hinder your recovery. If you do have psych issues, as long as you are stable and proactive it is rare for a psych to deny you. Good luck!! :)

Don't worry about the MMPI, it is required by some insurance companies, including mine. One question was "have you ever enjoyed marijuana?" The psych asked me only about that question and I told her that in CA in the 60s and 70s everybody enjoyed marijuana. She asked because of the addition potential, I passed, no problem.

Try not to worry. Everything will fall into place & you'll pass with flying colors.

Thank you for your input...I am feeling better. I was just a bit taken back w/the 2 quite lengthy tests. I have already looked thru and filled them out. It was different, but I just answered honestly. Here's to good results!!!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
