Full Liquid Diet ?

Recommended Posts

Okay

My surgery was 1/27 am, released from the hospital 1/28 pm. I am to switch from clear to full liquid diet today. On my list of allowable foods is fat free Greek yogurt. Do you know if it needs to be thinned to a liquid? If so what do I thin it with? Almond milk?

I've tried thinned/strained cream of chicken Soup with chicken soup flavor Protein (unjury). It's gross. I've been trying to drink my pre surgery protein: almond milk with chocolate truffle protein (nectar) it too is gross. Unflavored protein mixed with juice; gross. I'm at my wits end. Between anti nausea meds and pain meds, I'm full. Any tips?

Yogurt itself is considered a liquid and doesn't need to be thinned. Choose one with no chunks of fruit for this stage - vanilla, key lime, lemon, etc. Eat small bites slowly. I liked chowder and broccoli cheese Soup (strained or pureed), pea soup (pureed and thinned), sf pudding mixed w/choc Protein, ricotta seasoned and mixed with sauce, French Onion soup - broth only, and Atkins Protein Shakes. When you mix unflavored protein into Soups make sure it's not hot (more like over warm is good). If the soup is hot the protein foams and changes the consistency of the soup. And you don't have to use a whole scoop - sprinkling in a teaspoon or tablespoon into everything you eat will add up and be less noticeable to your taste buds. I remember everything having an unpleasant taste for a month or more. It does get better... :-)

Thank you so much. I think I was making things worse by trying to add an entire scoop to things. I'll get some of those Soups too. I'm going to go try my yogurt, I hope it won't taste gross

Right now Water is the most important thing. Protein is a lot easier to get in when you can eat more variety of foods. Do the best you can. One thing that I would suggest is logging your food so you know exactly how much protein you're getting each day. I use Spark People but a lot of people really like My Fitness Pal. It will calculate and track everything for you so you know exactly how you are doing. :-)

I would stay on thin liquid broth for a week. My doc left me on it for 2 wks. If you puke this early you can pop a stitch.

If you need more buy cream Soup and thin with Water. Drink Protein drinks for Breakfast but coffee or warm tea first, something warm in the morning helps the pouch.

I eat popsicle at night or pudding.

My doctor is requiring me to drink 4 Protein shakes a day (Bariatric Fusion). Other than that all I can have is tons of Water and Crystal like or something like it. I'm allowed one cup of coffee a day with no sugar. Not enthused but it's only for 6 days.

And coffee (if your doctor allows it) or tea must be Decaf. My program says no coffee, reg or decaf, for the first three months - it's acidic and an irritant to your healing pouch, and it's a diuretic which can contribute to dehydration. A cup of herbal tea or even a cup of warm Water with lemon is great to wake up your pouch in the morning. :-)

How funny. I'm up and drinking warm Water with lemon right now. I'm hoping I'll be able to tolerate my Protein Shake today. Yesterday I only got in 171 calories and 14 grams if Protein plus 4 anti nausea meds and 3 pain meds. (I did get in about 60 oz of liquid)

For some reason everything tastes gross and makes me nauseous.

Today is a new day to try again.

Thanks for the help.

No you can not take puree food your second week unless your doc allows it. My first 2 weeks I was Clear Liquids only.. next 4 wks full liquids only. All docs are different, follow your doc diet

I'm sorry. I totally misread your post. I thought you were referring to the pre-op. I feel stupid lol.

No worries, full liquid answers pre or post are helpful and I can still apply my doctor's orders.

Unfortunately today wasn't much better. I did get down some Greek yogurt but it still tasted gross to me.

Things tasted gross to me the first 15 days but after that it got much better.

Although very strict about moving to foods, my doc has allowed coffee from day 3. I guess I'm lucky on that point

How is everyone measuring their intake. I probably sound stupid but I grab a water bottle and sip it. I made Soup and poured some of it into a small bowl. I had a Popsicle a small amount of Jello etc. is there an easier way to measure everything? When my hubby made the jello for me he just poured it into ramikens and I grab it. Is there an easier way to measure everything? Also this morning he made me a carnation with lactate milk and a scoop of Protein. I didn't drink it all. How much should I be drinking at one sitting?

I use my fitness pal to track my intake, so I measure my stuff in ounces. plan from my dr. is for meals/snacks 1ounce sipped slowly over 15 minutes.

I'm good with getting my 64ounces of fluids in a day, but very lacking in the 60-80 grams of Protein.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
