Why didn't you go with the sleeve?

Recommended Posts

I chose RNY because I already had the band and the failure of that surgery was devestating. I'm basically going for gold here.

Also I had to pick the RNY due to the damage caused by the band.

I chose RNY because my doctor felt it would allow me to lose more weight and limit my sugar intake. I also wanted to have a consequence if I eat something I shouldn't. It also helped with my acid reflux

I chose rny because I wanted the restriction an malabsorption - gold standard for weight loss. Also I've had 5 successful family members who had rny and one who had the band then the sleeve then rny! I'm almost thinking that she just wasn't as dedicated. But I've first hand seen long term results with rny as my aunt has been maintaining her goal weight for nearly 13 years. Also for the amount of weight I needed to lose which is 150lbs my doctor recommended rny for me.

I didnt have a choice, i wasnt obese enough for the sleeve and because of my hiatel hernia, the band wasnt a choice. I am glad i had the bypass...im 10 months and 132 lbs lighter.

When I had my bypass (1 year exactly today, 142lbs lost), my insurance did not cover the sleve & to be honest, going to the after surgery meeting that we had to attend to talk with the nurse & nutritionist, the patients who had the sleve had a much harder recovery & they had to wait America week before they got to start foods. I know every Dr.has their own plan for when you start on your liquids, soft etc.thats just how mine worked. I was 398lbs the day of my surgery, now 255lbs& I can't tell you how much better life is, l have some illness not associated with my weight, but l feel like my old self again, its wonderful. Good luck in your journey, I'm sure you will be happy in whatever you choose. Please stay in touch. Peace, Mary

I will echo exactly what caitiegirly07 said. And, it has done exactly that.

I chose RNY because I've previously had reflux surgery and hiatel hernia surgery. They also had to repair my hernia again when they did the RNY. I think reflux sufferers are recommended to have RNY.

I did RNY because after the research I did, more people long term was successful with this. Also as started earlier, I wanted consequences if I ate something wrong.

I chose RNY because it is considered the Gold Standard of weight loss surgery. Just has more years of research and outcomes. Also I just wanted to take the big punch straight out the gate so that meant go for the one that I felt had the most proven results. Also I needed the treat of dumping to keep me in check. I'm a food addict and binge eat. Regardless both surgeries are proving to be safe and effective. Good luck with your choice!

I binge eat too.

I think the urge is still there sometimes I just have to work on it. Keep my mind redirected. Dumping really bad isn't fun and the memory of that has kept me in check. Good luck!!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
