I was banded on the 19 of March. My last day in the hospital they gave me a barium drink so they could do an exray. Soon after I was hit with diarrehia. They suggested Imodium for that. On the 23 and 24 there was no diarrehia but last night it hit again in full force. I'm sure it's because most of the liquids I've drank, like a pitchure of crystal light, have sugar alcohol in it. But looking at labels, so does most other diet liquids. I had a slim fast shake for Breakfast and was hit about 3 hours later. What suggestions do any of you have to get nutrients without the sugar alcohol?

You are having diarrhea because you have no solids foods going in. No solids going in=no solids coming out (or perhaps a little residue, but essentially no solid stuff). It will get better when you can advance to the next stage and have some liquids with more residue to them.

I agree with faithmd, liquids in=liquids out. Once you start more solid food, the diarrhea will stop. You can take immodium, but IMHO you'd risk being constipated once you progress your diet. Unless it's a real problem, such as you feel you're putting out more than you're taking in or you're getting dehydrated from it, I'd recommend just putting up with it the best you can. It's just a bump in the road to a healthier you.

Good luck,

I would also check the ingredients of what you're having in liquids. The artificial sweetner "Splenda" aka sucralose, has that exact same effect on me, about 2-3 hours after I have something with it in it.

I appreciate the feedback. I really thought that was probably the reason but nowhere on any forum I've checked out had mentioned it. Tomorrow I'm starting on pudding and mashed potatoes.

I am having the same problem; I am only out 7 days and have had diarrhea 5 of those days. I am lactose intolerant and having a hard time. I have been using lactaid milk and still suffering. I will be glad when I get to the phase of food...instead of liquids. Good Luck JR

For those of you who are allowed yogurt, my nutritionist recommends it very strongly for restoring regularity. Yogurt replaces the healthy bacteria that was eliminated from our systems because of the surgery which is one of the main factors leading to diarrhea. Activia is the brand of yogurt she recommends most strongly.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
