I had the gastric sleeve surgery on 1/13/14 in Billings MT. Stayed one night then went home. I had little to no pain and feel great. I will return to work on Monday. Just finishing my week of a full liquid diet then on to puree! Actually I can hardly wait.. My loss since before Christmas is 30 pounds!! 70 to go :).

Any words of wisdom welcome. food ideas on a puree diet?

Puree was the worst for me. Yuck id rather stay on the shakes but your new pouch needs the puree to start acting like a stomach. The only advice i can truly say is my dr said to me " Ive given you the tool.. Dont abuse it cause you can go back the other way "

careful with the puree. I really didn't have any restriction it seemed with the full liquids stage. Been a couple of days on puree and I certainly know my sleeve's limits now. Don't confuse puree as similar to liquids. It fills the pouch and moves slowly on thru. Eat slow and small bites and stop at any sign of feeling a little blocked or pressure type pain in the chest. Your full. For me it was about 3.5 oz. Four was too much. You try that extra bite, you're gonna hurt.

Purée should be the consistency of mashed potatoes. I found 1/3 cup to be the max I could hold. Check out the food and Nutrition forum for lots of recipes for every diet phase including purée.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
