Insurance change in April. Arghhh!

Recommended Posts

So, I have just made the decision that gastric sleeve is what I want. I called Cigna, and my current plan will cover 100% once I get approval. Ok, I can jump through their hoops and do what they need me to do for 100% coverage. Today, I check the mail to find out our insurance will change to United April 1st. My first Drs appointment is on Feb 10th. So now what? Will I have to start all over again with new insurance April 1st? Has anyone else had this happen? I would like to have surgery ASAP. I'm sure everyone here pre sleeve feels that way too.

Call your HR Dept. to find out the specifics on the insurance. They might be able to tell you what your new insurance is going to pay. I bet they won't pay 100% like Cigna. Cigna must be some badass insurance. Most insurance makes you pay a deductible and a copay. Good luck to you.

This happened to me. Our insurance changes March 1st and the new insurance doesn't cover weight loss surgery. My current insurance required 6 months of nutrition so once that was complete my surgeon rushed things long. I am being sleeved in the morning.

Joyrokk, I bet you are really excited. I hope everything goes smoothly. Let us all know how it goes tomorrow. Good luck to you. That would be awesome if I could get sleeved before April. I better have all my ducks in a row if that's even possible. I do plan on calling the new insurance tomorrow, HR, the drs office and anybody else that could help.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
