What's are you doing about clothes?

I kept my smaller clothes from when I lost before and as I regained. I hope to just wear the old stuff for awhile because it is way too expensive to replace dress clothes every month and tailoring only looks good one time.

Ditto!

Gman,

too funny : ) If I didn't have a job that I have to dress up for believe me--I'd live in jeans, jean shorts in summer and t-shirts.

old navy clearance has been a lifesaver for me. i found jeans at thrift stores like savers and the goodwill for $5-$10 usually. sweatpants are great too, but i'm lucky because i'm allowed to wear them at work. make sure you're donation your old clothes! i happened to come into contact with another bariatric patient who's a few sizes bigger than me, so i've been giving her all of my old stuff.

In fact I went through my closets last night! Purged 2 boxes and 3 garbage bags of clothes, I tend to hold onto things for ever!!! The salvation army is coming through my neighbor hood next week so I will be putting the stuff out for them. I have also given stuff to friends in need. I have purchased 2 pairs of jeans from kmart that were a bit snug a couple months ago and now are almost a tad big but still wearable. I love my yoga pants (that are now starting to get big in the thighs) My loss has been slow and gradual and I have clothes from all the different stages of weight loss from my past. That has helped. The good news is I had one pair of jeans that I have held onto from around my wedding (almost 8 yrs ago) they were my "someday" jeans, well I tried them on last night and they fit!!!! I celebrated by getting on the elliptical for 30 min!

As we start dropping weight and changing sizes, how are folks planning to deal with constantly changing clothes and replacing them. I haven't shopped since surgery and waiting to lose a significant amount/clothes to start falling off me before I replace them. But honestly have no clue what to buy and how much. What are you doing?

People suggested going to Goodwill to get clothes while losing weight and I was skeeved out when i first heard this (wearing used clothes? ick!). After spending $100+ on pants only to have to replace them a month and a half later I went to Goodwill . After awhile I was able to fit into clothes at Wal-Mart so I get stuff from there too now. I'll save the designer clothes for after i get to goal. ;)

Is it worth it to get jackets tailored? My guess is that it's more expensive than buying used or new clothes.

Depends on how many sizes you are going down. If it is just one size, then yes. If it is two or more, I don't think it is worth it. I did it once and the suit never fit very well after cutting it down so much.

I give my clothes to a friend who is transitioning after sleeve as well ( she started bigger than me) or another friend. I have been buying from a local veterans thrift store or consignment shops locally. I did splurge and go buy panties at jcpenney but they were on sale and I had a coupon :)

Up until now, I was able to primarily shop my own closet from previous weight losses. I hoarded my old clothes hoping they would fit again. Now they are too big :-)

I took a suitcase to Clothes Mentor yesterday. Sold a bunch and bought a bunch, only had to pay $4 after selling my stuff. I have about 3 more suitcases to bring in. They don't take everything, but it really helps my budget!

Goodwill also has great selection. Whatever I can't sell will go there. I have found awesome dress pants for $5 and nice jeans for $7.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
