Anyone having issues getting motivated to exercise?

Recommended Posts

I am having some issues trying to get in shape. I have lost 135 lbs and have hardly worked out and now need some motivation or encouragement. You would think I would of gained some confidence but I have not. Help!

I hired a personnal trainer for 6 months to help get me back into the swing of things. She keeps me accountable and makes sure I get a good workout. I also convinced a co-worker to train with me for an upcoming 5K race.

I hear you! Before my surgery I did no exercise at all, so the concept of doing some afterwards was very alien to me.

Initially I was pleased (and surprised) to find that I was able to walk more, and do more jobs around the house. After about 6 months I bought an exercise bike and now I use that every day - it's in my bedroom. I still can't bear the thought of going to a gym and working out with other people. I much prefer exercising in private, and I'm of the opinion that you should do whatever works for you. There is absolutely no point in trying to motivate yourself to do exercise you don't enjoy! :-)

I am a former athlete who has ALWAYS hated exercise. Gym or at home gym is YUCK, ew, boring, lame....

I dropped nearly 100 lbs after RNY without doing one exercise.... then reality struck:
I am jiggly and my body is all out of shape. Although I feel better and I am not winded, I have little to no strength.

I cant tell you where to find motivation but I can give you some suggestions:

Find an activity you love. It could be walking the dog, playing fetch with him, a sport such as racquetball or volleyball.
Consider some type of dance class - there are places/studios etc, that are not gyms. I take hoop classes. I also like Yoga.

I did join our gym and wish I could afford a trainer but I cannot.

What about music??? If you find some music that you love, you can rock out in your own home in front of a youtube video. Youtube has amazing 3 min to 30 min videos.

When you go to the stores, park out far. Walk around the store a lot.

I dont know where you live, but if it's where there is snow - go shovel! Shovel for your neighbor even.

You can do tons of leg exercises in bed too - might not be cardio, but will help you stretch and wok muscles.

Losing 10 lbs of fat and replacing it with 10 lbs of muscle is a goal many people should have.

I can think of more and might post again, but I HATE exercise. I can tell you though that skinny feels good and you can stuff fat into pants, but having muscle and tone feels better. If you have stairs in your house - go up/down them 10x/3x a day even.

I really need inspiration too! I want the results but don't want to exercise or eat right. What is that? I know the surgery is a tool, but I don't feel like trying right now. I hope this doesn't sound like a pity party, because it ain't. I do need motivation though. Anybody?

I was a year post op before I found my inspiration. I started doing Zumba at a local studio. I love it!! I have never been able to do any kind of cardio. I can do a 90 minute session at least once a week and I do 5 days 60 minutes each session.

I understand what you are feeling. It took me 6-8 months to realize that I need to do exercise. I started slow by just walking around my house for 15 minutes before going to work and 15 minutes after work. I decided to start going to a gym because they were waiving registration fee. I join the gym and for a month I didn't go because I was tired and I was still losing weight. I pushed myself to do exercise because I don't want to be sagging everywhere. Everyday I have to push myself to do exercise. My husband tells me the hardest thing about exercise is getting started. Today, I do 3 days bootcamp, 3 days yoga and 6 days Cardio. I got two teenagers girls that pushes me to workout. Find a friend or family member and do exercise together. It helps if you can get a trainer.

I will never love exercise but it will be a part of my lifestyle.

I like the stairs suggestion. I like to walk but January was a brutally cold month. I think I'm going to do some stair-climbing. :-)

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
