Pregnancy and Breastfeeding post op

Recommended Posts

Hello all...I am still preop but just have a couple concerns still. My husband and I have two little girls but we still want one to two more children if that's what the good Lord allows. I am scheduled for surgery Feb 24 pending insurance approval.....I know they say wait 1 year to 1.5 years before etc which I am fine with but my main concern is breastfeeding....it is very important to me and I want to be able to do so...I know there's are a few on here that have had children post sleeve but I was wondering if any of you were able to successfully nurse without issue? Any advice, stories or tips would be much appreciated. Thank you :)

I can't speak as to nursing quite yet... I am 23 weeks and am already leaking... the girls a prepping themselves earlier than they did with my last 2... Also you can contact your local la Leche league and they will jump through hoops to help you out. My doctors (surgeon and OB) say that I shouldn't have a problem :-)

the lactation expert at the hospital where I am having my baby said I could have a problem with milk production however there are things you can do. she told me what I eat will be key. lots of Protein. also she said drink drink drink because with the sleeve its harder to get enough liquids and that will be your number one thing that will set you back. so stay hydrated. there is also an herb fenugreek that helps increase milk production and is the most widely recommended herb to help with lactation. the lactation lady also said get help immediately so that frustration doesn't set in because that is when you give up. no question is dumb and neither r any concerns. and as mamachef said contact your leche league that is all they do. you might also look for a hospital that offers monthly or weekly free drop in clinics that allow to address milk production, lack and anything else. hope that helps.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
