How soon after being banded can you start normal activities?

Recommended Posts

Hi. I'm really new at this. I actually am just in the beginning stages. I have my first appt in 2 weeks, but I have a question. I have 2 young children and I'm wondering how long it will take after surgery until I'm able to take care of them normally? My youngest is a baby and both are still in diapers.

Thanks,

Nicole

I'm sort of used to having surgeries. I've had 3 in the past 5 years, 2 of them being in the last 2 years (c-sections). I know with my last c section I was able to pick up my then 14month old daughter the day after, so I'm hoping the recovery isn't much worse. Any complications other than the normal surgery risks I should be worried about?

I think its different for everyone. There were ladies straight up walking around laughing and joking only a few hours after surgery. Where i was alot worse. One of the ladies the very next day was lifting her suitcase and felt absolutelt fine but i was quiet ill the few days after surgery. As regards to lifting, i think i was back to normal around a week later.

Just be careful and do whats best for you. Everyone is different.

You don't want to herniate any incision, I would be careful about lifting. But ask your surgeon, they will know what the safest thing for you is. Otherwise, unless you are sick for some reason, you should be able to carry on as usual a couple days after surgery. I was back to my usual routine the next morning. I was sore but not as to hold me back from anything. I am 2 weeks post-op today. I feel great. I am also off the liquid only post-op diet today. WOOHOO!!

Probably 2 days - and mum had my 2 year old daughter during the day for 5 days. But general household duties and playing taxi to a 9 year old and an 11 year old was 2 or 3 days.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
