I am scared the surgery didn't work for me

Recommended Posts

I have been on soft foods this week, so I was expecting to feel some major restriction, but I really don't. I have read that at first you can only eat 1/2 cup or so of food, but I had a half cup each of 2 soft veggies for dinner and didn't really feel full afterwards. I am so concerned my stomach is not restricted enough.

I was the same way couldn't feel anything, then I moved to solid foods and I can really feel it... I can only take a couple of bites of food and be full so I try to get my fluids in and Protein and Vitamins to stay healthy! I have got sick trying to eat more than a couple of bites and it will definitely come back up. Give it time.

Your nerves may be healing slowly. I would measure how much food you should be eating and stick to that, and not eat more just because you feel like you can. You might be damaging or stretching your stomach without even knowing it if you overeat. I don't know how much food your program allows for your stage, but mine said maximum of 3 ounces or 1/3 cup total for each meal while on soft foods. I weigh or measure my food and don't go over regardless.

Try Proteins as recommended! I was loving my first taste of refried Beans with a bit of mild salsa. Also, we were given a recipe for Soup where you added in a can of FF refried Beans, and I modified it to my taste. Started with low sodium chicken broth. I have not gone to the veggies yet, at 7 weeks post op, just sticking to Proteins. My next project will be canned chicken breast with FF mushroom Soup, and seasonings. I did the crock pot chicken a little too soon I think, so I am relaxing now and taking it easy.

:) Hi Linda, did you feel a little shaky with the change in diet? I had a bad stomach bug this last week that lasted 4 -5 days and could barely eat but I did hydrate and was soon able to eat yogurt and some Tomato soup....and feel better but wondering if that is how I am going to feel all the time. Shaky and weak?

Your advise is GREATLY appreciated!!

Thanks

My restriction changes from day to day. Sometimes I can eat and there is no bad feelings and then other times 5 bites and I'm done...eating slowly allows more but I don't have time to eat for 25 minutes just to get in 3 oz of chicken so I eat what I can and then done...i'm not hungry anyway. :S

DebbieRenee, I never felt shaky at all after 2 days postop. I am sure it is the stomach bug doing that to you. That will pass.

I used to feel like I had to have something to eat all the time to fill the churning stomach hunger. Now I go hours without thinking of food, and that need to eat constantly feeling is gone. You will feel so strong so fast (as you recover from the bug).

My husband was sleeved too, 4 weeks ago. Being a terrible diabetic, we are used to his shakiness and needing quick fixes. I am constantly asking him (habit) are you okay, you need something. He can now leave the house 2 hours like he did this morning without food. He ate a boiled egg about 10:30 a.m. and isn't shaky or craving food either.

Absolutely amazing! Sorry about that darn stomach bug! Get better soon and rest!

I enjoy reading the posts everyone!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
