pre-op and post op diet...

Recommended Posts

Well, i'm probably not to first to say i've had a problem with dieting. Doctors always tell me . "you'll lose weight if you eat six small meals a day." Hrms six small meals eh? I can barely find time for one a day . I'm a single mother of 2 and i work alot. When i fix the kids food i make a plate for myself but by the time i get them fed and try to sit down and eat they are trying to either A. Eat my dinner or B. Trying to get up from the table so i just put my plate on the counter and dont even bother with it til they are in bed. Ever since high school some how i've programed myself to eat just once a day. I'm wondering how this is going to effect me after the surgery with the different types of food they want us to eat. Anyone got any suggestions or advice? Cause all they seem to serve at the casino is fast food stuf and i'm so tired of fast food i just dont eat til i get home. That is if i have enough energy to eat something. I'm hypoglycemic so when i feel my blood sugar running low i drink OJ or eat a sandwhich. I go through more OJ and Water in my house then actual food, mainly cause i smoke so damn much to curve the cravings but smoking is about to be out of the picture.... I have one pack left and i'm forcing myself not to buy any more after this.

poor matabalism maybe ? I'm not sure? When i started gaining the weight my doctor told me i wasn't eating enough or exercising enough. I was like well i eat once a day i should lose weight right? For me it seems i gain the weight. I'm at 230 atm and i'm 5'3. My doc said he wants me at 110-120lbs. which seems like a lifetime ago i think i was 10 years old when i was that weight. They checked my thyroid when i was 19 and said i didnt have a thyroid problem. Just bad eating habits like eating once a day. i eat my veggies hell me and my kids love our vegies i just can't get it to come off!

no it's not that i'm a grazer and i'm serious i eat one meal. Sometimes it's a big mac and fries from McD's on my way to work , or it's at the restraunts at work. I eat til i'm full or i just stuff my self cause i dunno when i'll have the time again to eat. But it's usually just once a day. I know i should adjust my diet to better protiens instead of something that's fast and easy but that's what i do cause that's what i have the time for. I 'm not one for thinking people are mean and bitches if they are trying to give productive critizism. *spelling?* I start my mornings off with me rushing around the house mentally yelling at myself cause i'm late get to work , if i get a break i eat at bk or taco bueno which ever line is shorter and that's my meal. I come home hop on comp and relax.

I'm not going to lie and say i dont have depression issues. I get down about my weight and then get pissed off cause of the way i've lived my life. Every once in a while i'll go through a bag of hershies chocolates. Doesn't help my weight then i go through the whole pissed off at myself part and go back to eatting one day to try to make up for that bag of chocolates i ate earlier in the week. i want to change the way i feel and the way i look. Plus the weight change will help with the back problems I have and could Possibly help me from having back surgery "so says Dr. Keith" . I know that i dont eat the right foods all the time . I do eat them sometimes but not as often as i should. I do know that i get down and eat til i'm stuff and then wash and repeat the cycle. I'm not looking for sympothy i'm just looking for advice on how to change. I want to hear feedback on what people have experienced and if people go through the same cycle as i do. i didnt say i eat one small meal. i said i ate a 1 meal.

but i do understand what u are saying. When i hit 298 when i went in to have my daughter i was munching all the time . After her i did it and then i just stopped , i dont remember what stopped me but i did . i'm at 230 right now. I have been between 220 and 240 for the past 2 years. I eat when i'm hungry and in some cases i eat when i get depressed.

Well i made a few calls for local docotrs did some research on line and did a lil research via word of mouth from people that had it done. I called my insurance company they said they would cover it. I'd have to pay 1300 out of pocket but they'd foot the rest of the bill. I have to go t a siminare on thursday to meet with the doctors again and turn in all my insurance information. So after the siminare it's the waiting game to hear back from the doctor for the approval he said 1-3 weeks for that. then i'll come in and have another meeting with them to schedual my pre-op stuff and schedual my banding. I'm nervous and scared about it at the same time but i know it's for the better.

I'm also worried about the excess skin , i've sent a few pm's to people about it and they had body lifts or tummy tucks... something the insurance wont cover i dont think. Seems more cosmetic. but it wont hurt to ask them. I've been putting off the back surgery for about 3 years now because i'm just too scared to do it . They want to put spacers in my spine because i have no cartlige in the lower 4 L sections of the spine. which causes lots of pain and arthritis. I'm like a walking weather girl i know when it's gonna rain and i know when it's gonna get COLD! Lol . i 've been searching through the before and after pictures and OMG those people are so inspiring . It's like i can't wait to do that too. Today tho i hit a low . Because i'm surrounded by beautiful skinny woman who work with me. Makes me jealous then i feel bad because i envy them. Working in a casino surrounded by beautiful people and you are one of the "fat" people just brings your heart down but i keep telling myself one day i'll be thin too and it makes me feel somewhat better not alot but a enough to get through my shift.

LOL I took that picture after a day of pampering! I went had my hair done my eye brows waxed then marched over to the Esta Lauter counter in dillards and said Make me pretty! lol and that's what she did . I bought the make up she put on me and the only thing i can get to look like that is the lips. LOL I can't for the life of me figure out how she did the eye shadow it's like 4 different colors lol

go to dillards if u got 30 bucks to spend go there, just buy some lipstick or something and they will do your make up for free! Have her tell you how she put it on you , sometimes they have a peice of paper that's got a picture of a face and they put make up in the areas on the paper so u can practice with it when u get home :)

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
