Gastric bypass twice?

Recommended Posts

Hi I'm new to this site and was looking to see if there's anyone else thinking of getting the gastric bypass a second time? I'm 3 years out and have gained about half my weight back. Is it safe to do it twice ? I would appreciate it if anyone knew anyone who has done it twice and what was the outcome ... Thanks

My 32 year old daughter had a rounY done 12 years ago and gained back about 75% back .. My surgeon told her the pouch is not stretched as much as she thought! She just stopped eating like she should of . She began back on the food plan the day I had mine ( nov 18) and she is losing it right along with me. With all the Protein and fluids she is never hungry.. Just like before . Try doing it like you know.... Hope this helps

I've gained 40 lbs of the 100 I lost. I had my pouch check and they have confirmed that it has stretched so I spoke to my surgeon and he recommended a revision bypass where he goes in and make the pouch the same size it was before but I don't know if that is that best option. I'm never hungry I actually can't eat more than 1 leg of chicken at a time I just eat potato chips all day it's the only thing that doesn't make me sick ... would you do it again if your pouch stretched ?

My mom just had the rny done for the second time, nine years later. (same surgeon) She gained back about 50% of the weight she had lost and stretched out her pouch. She just had the second surgery three weeks ago and already she is drinking soda. I'm scared for her.

I'm not sure of a lot of statistics with revision but I do recall some info about the 5 day pouch test which is supposed to help get you back on track. Good luck!

Wow, does she know the carbonation in soda stretches the pouch. I hag RUN back in 2001, I had sutures left inside and developed a hiatal hernia so they did revision and I'm 3 weeks out and having lots of left side pain still and tired of liquids. But I stopped soda back in 2001

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
