Flipped port and pain

Recommended Posts

I was banded in 1/13 and I have a flipped port. I'm pretty sure it's been flipped since very shortly after my surgery because at my first fill and ever since my surgeon has had a hard time accessing my port, but he never said it was flipped. At first I thought it was normal and maybe just my body or the position of the port. But I saw another surgeon in the practice and he was immediately like "oh my goodness you have a 90 degree flip!" He showed me the flip on X-ray, and now I know why I can only feel the side of my port.

My question is has anyone else experienced this and more importantly, did you have pain with it? I have a lot of pain in my port area and suspect it's related to the flip.

Yes, I did. I was banded on 12/28/2012. In April, I was experiencing pain and when my surgeon tried to fill me be realized my port had flipped I had a day surgery a week later to reposition my port. I've been fine ever since, no more pain and my one year anniversary is on 12/28.

My port has flipped, a little. My surgeon said he can still access the port, however. I do not have any pain. He said that the port might have turned when I had lost enough weight to make it too big and I might need a smaller port. So far, I have not needed further surgery, but I don't get fills anymore, either since then. Perhaps you do as Dawalsh did. Best wishes to you. Karen..aka.kll724

My surgery was Oct 2012 and by Jan2013 my port had flipped completely over. Never had any pain. Had a port revision and no more problems.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
