Did you have one last hurrah?

Recommended Posts

While the mindset I have on food consumption has changed greatly over the past year, I still want one last hurrah. I live on the Water and seafood is a staple. I know I am going to have to start my liver shrinking diet on January 7th, but the weekend before I think I am going to go out and order a softball sized crab cake, even if I can only get half of it down.

Do you have a last meal you are going to eat before you start your pre op?

My preop diet lol. It was Atkins induction style, which is heaven for me. I ate all the meat, cheese, and deviled eggs I could handle. Cheese is still my nemesis. I will make it an entire meal or two if it is in the house.

I went out for a 32 oz porterhouse dinner before I started my liquid diet...creamed spinach, chop salad, garlic mashed potatoes...I ate it all. This seems to be a common phenomenon with many if us...the good news is I can still eat steak...just 3 oz instead of 32...still satisfying and delicious..

Ahhh...The "last supper syndrome! " ;)

Almost all of us have done it. Mine lasted for 3 or 4 days. I had dieted so hard before surgery and lost almost 40 lbs. When it came right down to surgery time, I wanted all of my favorites one last time. I gained 11 lbs by the time I had my pre op meeting. The nurse blamed it on a different scale but I was mortified! I had 1 week to lose it before surgery which I did. I had no pre op diet by the way. Anyway, you are not alone. Just don't do what I did! ;)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
